Dear Lafayette Families,

Welcome to the middle of May! It is impossible to believe that there are only 5 weeks left of school. The first order of a business is to celebrate last week's Field Days!
They were FANTASTIC!!!!!! I couldn't even began to wrap my brain around what I was seeing - countless stations, volunteers at each, kids moving and running and playing until they had worn themselves out, clever T-shirts, popsicles, tug of war, and relay races....

From the HSA

Thank you to all of you who came out to last week's General Meeting. We had a nice turnout for the election and budget discussion. Congratulations to our new HSA Board members! We have a great group of folks to guide the HSA's efforts next year. If you were not able to make it to the meeting, please take a moment to review the proposed draft budget for SY 2015-2016. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions regarding the Budget, please click here and tell us what's on your mind. Based on the comments and suggestions we receive between now and Wednesday, May 27, we may make some changes to the Budget before it's presented for approval at the General Meeting on June 11.

The main office set a goal for 100% of returning students to be registered by May 15th, and we came very close to achieving our goal. If you are returning to Lafayette next year, please be sure to stop by the school to register as soon as possible. Completed enrollment packets should be returned to the main office, along with residency verification information, by the person who signed the packet. Health forms do not need to be turned in at this time.

Remember, tomorrow, May 20th at 7:30 PM, is the Community Modernization Meeting, and Thursday is Arts Night for grades PK, K and 1st.

Have an amazing week!

Hope & Laurie

Congratulations Lafayette Track!

At last week's DCIAA Elementary Outdoor City Track & Field Championships, the Boys Bears Track & Field Team finished 2nd overall, while the Girls Team finished 3rd. A great showing by the Bears! Congratulations to all the athletes!

Many individual athletes won and placed in events. The full results can be found here.

voting_people.jpgLocal School Advisory Team Election
The Local School Advisory Team (LSAT) is a group of elected and appointed members that exists for every DCPS school. The team consists of four (4) parents (elected by the parent body), teachers, non-instructional school staff and a community member to advise the Principal on matters that promote high expectations and high achievement for all students. These teams were initially established to serve in an advisory capacity to the Principal for the purpose of improving student outcomes.

LSAT members are tasked with advising the Principal on matters such as: allocation of school resources; organization of the school; curriculum options, including special or supplementary course offerings and specialized research-based instructional strategies; budget decisions; priorities and considerations for staffing patterns and the selection of personnel; monitoring overall student progress; school culture, and family engagement.

The election for the four (4) LSAT parent members will be held at the General HSA Meeting on Thursday, June 11. If you are interested in running for an LSAT position, please sign up HERE by May 29 or contact Gayle Moseley ([email protected]) with any questions.
Thank You Nepal Earthquake Fundraising Goes Through the Roof!

Many classes have raised at least $250 and have received donut holes. These classes include Ms. Hallock's class, Ms. Hill's class, Ms. Haigler's class, Mr. Martin's class, Ms. Cacibauda's class, Ms. Hebert's class, Mr. Otunba's class, Ms. Harn's class, Ms. Powell's class, Mr. Rogall's class, Ms. Yedwab's class, and Ms. Fratto's class. We raised almost $7,000 in total! This donation will help hundreds of victims and help to get the people in Nepal back on their feet. A huge thanks to everyone who participated in the fundraiser, and we hope those affected by the earthquake will benefit from our donation.

P.S. Ms. Ghamarian's class, Ms. deJonckheere's class, Ms. Phillip's class, and Ms. Cobb's class were very close to $250 and might have raised enough to get donuts on Monday.

Lafayette family seeking nanny-share!
Our younger daughter (turning 4 in October) attends Temple Sinai Nursery School, and we would love to join another family for a nanny share arrangement in the fall. She is one the hippest, funniest kids you could hope to meet, with an abiding love of all things dinosaur, superhero, reptile and insect. We'll definitely need someone five days a week, and probably from noon to 5:30, although we may keep her at school a few afternoons a week. We're happy to have the other family host, though the kids can be at our place too. Ideal for another TSNS family, of course, but we're open to other families with preschool-aged kids in the neighborhood!

Thanks,

Beth Jacob, [email protected]

Thank You Lafayette Sponsors!

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our very generous Annual Sponsors for 2014-2015, your continued support is amazing!
