Is your company positioned for success?

In today's hyper-competitive marketplace, positioning can mean the difference between going forward and going out of business.

Discovering your position will give you an understanding of your key strengths and competitiveness in the market. From there, you have the key to positioning your company and winning the battle for market share.

YOUR "POSITION" IS WHERE CUSTOMERS RANK YOU RELATIVE TO YOUR COMPETITORS. It's why they choose you instead of a competitor. It's generally the one thing you offer that competitors don't or can't easily match.
"Positioning" is what marketers do to strengthen or change their brand position. Successful positioning is based on market realities - customer perceptions/demands and competitive capabilities. Key to positioning is stepping back and taking an honest view of where you rank in the mind of your customer.

Establishing a unique position is crucial. The next step is to deliver a focused message that consistently reinforces your position--instead of a list of features that your potential customer can get anywhere.

To grow, some brands must change their position. Marlboro cigarettes were initially targeted at women and featured a red filter tip to hide lipstick. Sales were disappointing. Marlboro was then repositioned to target men using the "macho" figure of a cowboy. This consistent advertising message has helped build Marlboro into the largest selling cigarette in the world and a brand valued at $69 billion.

To determine your optimal market position, or niche, get a deep
understanding of your competitor's positions, get unbiased perspectives of your customer, and learn what sets you apart.
Focus your marketing messages to reinforce your position. Many companies fail to grow because they're simply not positioned for success.
