Extended Stay America
3170 Garrity Way 510 222-7383
Welcome to Extended Stay America - Richmond - Hilltop Mall. Our hotel is designed especially for longer stays with studios featuring fully-equipped kitchens and plenty of work space... amenities you won't find in a typical hotel room.
Tell us about your guests. Where are they from? Why are they staying in Richmond?
We have a very diverse clientele. Our relationships with the refineries are vitally important but our guests vary from families moving to the area, to nurses working on temporary assignments, to construction crews, to teams laying fiber optics to IT personnel. We get locals and guests from all over the country. Having our kitchens and home away from home feel, we tend to get guests staying for longer periods. This gives us a great opportunity to get to know each guest individually.

Point Richmond Acoustic presents Blues Duo Chris Webster and Nina Gerber
First Methodist Church
201 Martina Avenue
Friday, May 10
$18 per person
$15 for students & seniors
Available at the door
Doors open at 7:30
Point Richmond Acoustic closes the 2012/13 season with another remarkable double bill featuring the blues duo of Chris Webster and Nina Gerber.
Guitarist Nina Gerber is regarded by many as the best guitarist - acoustic, electric or otherwise - in all of Northern California. Though she favors tasteful melodic lines and atmospheric embellishment over displays of technical virtuosity, her mastery of the guitar is dazzling. Since her accompaniment of Kate Wolf first earned her recognition, her acute skills as performer, producer and arranger have continued to deepen.
Nina has a unique ability to completely free herself within an eclectic range of styles and add electric guitar sounds to acoustic music in a uniquely musical way. Presented with folk, country, bluegrass, rock, or blues, she is able to fall into leads which have rare reverence for the true feeling of a song, always emphasizing taste over technical display.
Chris Webster began nearly two decades ago as the teen-aged lead singer for Mumbo Gumbo, one of Northern California's best know regional acts. She boasts a successful resume highlighted by four solo releases (Drive, Now Playing, Something in the Water, My Name is Christine) and one amazing traditional Bluegrass/Americana recording (The Webster's "10,000 Miles) with her sister Cassie and renowned guitarist Scott Nygaard. With astonishing power and passion, Chris's voice reaches magical heights, yet effortlessly turns on a dime to deliver gut wrenching torch songs and gentle ballads.
Special guests Melody Walker and Jacob Groopman are taking the bluegrass world by a storm and are rising stars in their own right. Melody's soulful songwriting and Jacob's picking prowess join together in a duo that is creating it's own genre: "Americali." Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, respectively, Melody and Jacob harmonize earnestly over intricate textures of banjo, guitar and mandolin.
The Point Richmond First Methodist Church is an intimate place for concerts, and music is an important part of its program. Built more than 100 years ago, the octagonal shaped sanctuary accentuates the up close and personal nature of the music. The Point Richmond Acoustic Music series is completely non-religious and people of all faiths as well as no faith are welcome. It's a friendly no-pressure environment. It's all about the music here.

The Richmond Art Center Spring Exhibitions
Richmond Art Center
2450 Barrett Avenue
March 23 - June 1st
Innovations in Contemporary Crafts
A Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Crafts in California
Main Gallery & West Gallery
Innovations in Contemporary Crafts explores innovations in the traditional craft mediums of ceramics, wood, glass, metal, fiber, enamel, paper and jewelry. We survey artists who are forward thinking in their approach to materials and application.
Excavating Layers
South Gallery
This exhibition of mixed-media artwork illustrates how artists excavate new and historic images and materials to reveal particular tensions between figuration and abstraction and create new layers of visual and conceptual meanings. These layers signify the multiple systems that one experiences every day - home, community, society, nature, history, the world at large and one's place within order and chaos. Artists included are Tony Berlant, Shenny Phillips Cruces, Brian Dittmer, Monika Lin, Brian Rutenberg, Robert Sagerman and Dana Hart Stone.
The 48th Annual WCCUSD Student Art Show
Community Gallery
Now in its 48th year at the Richmond Art Center, the Annual West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) Student Art Show is a collaborative project between WCCUSD and the Richmond Art Center. Artwork by secondary school students fills the walls with diverse visions and individual creative voices.
Steve Mainini: Working in the WCCUSD, A Retrospective
South Gallery
This retrospective offers an in-depth look at the works that artist and art teacher Steve Mainini has created while teaching art at John F. Kennedy High School over the last 8 years. During this period Mainini has experimented with different processes, mediums and themes in his work.

 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
|
| |
Richmond Museum of History
Happy spring! The museum is currently undergoing many exciting changes, but because of the temporary staff shortage we need your help more than ever to accomplish our goals.
Our most critical need right now is volunteers to staff the museum during the times when it is open to the public, which is Wednesday through Sunday 1-4pm.
The need for volunteer staff is particularly critical for the days of April 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 during 1-4pm, while the paid staff attends the Annual Meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. We hope to have at least three volunteers to help open and close the museum, collect admission money, and staff the gift shop during this time. A sign up sheet for the days is available in the volunteer break room, so please sign up to help during your next visit to the museum.
The Museum is also in need of individuals to be trained as docents/gallery guides/visitor services representatives. There has been an increase in requests for tours, which is a very positive change for the museum, but we need knowledgeable volunteers to depend on to provide tours.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at 510-235-7387 if you have questions or are interested in helping out. Feel free to share this note widely.
Many thanks for supporting your community museum,
Melinda McCrary
Curator/Museum Manager

Bay Area Storytelling Festival
Craneway Pavilion
1414 Harbour Way South Saturday May 18
Sunday, May 19
Oral storytelling is an art for all ages, from the cutest kids and the hippest adults through the wisest grandparents. The Tellers: We are pleased to announce the tellers for the 2013 Bay Area Storytelling Festival! Award- winning storyteller and NPR commentator Kevin Kling tells hilarious, often tender stories. Megan Wells seeks the story eclipse when the ordinary world gives way to the light of the imagination. When Len Cabral tells stories, coyotes turn into ducks and we travel from Ethiopia to New England cranberry bogs. Yvette Brandy weaves stories and songs, and Will Hornyak promises to captivate, surprise and intrigue. Every year, the festival offers a school study trip, sponsored this year by a generous grant from the National Storytelling Network. This year's professional storytelling workshop is also on Friday, and features the two part harmony of Kevin Kling and Megan Wells. Saturday and Sunday we offer several performances for adults and older kids, a family program and more workshops. In 2013, we are hosting an invitational spoken word slam for local high school students.
