Shellshocked!
With the support of our local community volunteers, The Watershed Project's Living Shoreline program is restoring native Olympia oysters to the Richmond shoreline. Oysters are a keystone species that cause a positive ripple effect throughout the ecosystem. We invite everyone to build an oyster reef ball and be a part of the restoration story.
Want to learn more about oysters and the similarities between restoration efforts on the East Coast and West Coast? The Watershed Project presents the East Bay premiere of "Shellshocked: Saving Oysters to Save Ourselves." The film will be followed by a Q&A session with Chris Lim, Living Shoreline Program Manager, and Greg Babinecz, author of the SF Oyster Nerd blog.
Oysters and libations will be served!

Innovations in Contemporary Crafts
A Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Crafts in California
Main Gallery & West Gallery

Excavating Layers
South Gallery
This exhibition of mixed-media artwork illustrates how artists excavate new and historic images and materials to reveal particular tensions between figuration and abstraction and create new layers of visual and conceptual meanings. These layers signify the multiple systems that one experiences every day - home, community, society, nature, history, the world at large and one's place within order and chaos. Artists included are Tony Berlant, Shenny Phillips Cruces, Brian Dittmer, Monika Lin, Brian Rutenberg, Robert Sagerman and Dana Hart Stone.
The 48th Annual WCCUSD Student Art Show
Community Gallery
Now in its 48th year at the Richmond Art Center, the Annual West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) Student Art Show is a collaborative project between WCCUSD and the Richmond Art Center. Artwork by secondary school students fills the walls with diverse visions and individual creative voices.
Steve Mainini: Working in the WCCUSD, A Retrospective
South Gallery
This retrospective offers an in-depth look at the works that artist and art teacher Steve Mainini has created while teaching art at John F. Kennedy High School over the last 8 years. During this period Mainini has experimented with different processes, mediums and themes in his work.

 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
|
| |
Richmond Museum of History
Happy spring! The museum is currently undergoing many exciting changes, but because of the temporary staff shortage we need your help more than ever to accomplish our goals.
Our most critical need right now is volunteers to staff the museum during the times when it is open to the public, which is Wednesday through Sunday 1-4pm.
The need for volunteer staff is particularly critical for the days of April 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 during 1-4pm, while the paid staff attends the Annual Meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. We hope to have at least three volunteers to help open and close the museum, collect admission money, and staff the gift shop during this time. A sign up sheet for the days is available in the volunteer break room, so please sign up to help during your next visit to the museum.
The Museum is also in need of individuals to be trained as docents/gallery guides/visitor services representatives. There has been an increase in requests for tours, which is a very positive change for the museum, but we need knowledgeable volunteers to depend on to provide tours.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at 510-235-7387 if you have questions or are interested in helping out. Feel free to share this note widely.
Many thanks for supporting your community museum,
Melinda McCrary
Curator/Museum Manager

Last years debut concert was a huge success, and we look forward to another great evening. The concert will feature JAZZ-ology, JazzaNova and Jazz Singers as well as a couple of soloists from Roger's Jazz Solo Voice Class. The theater is located on the corner of El Portal and Castro in San Pablo. The rhythm section features Walter Bankovitch, Carla Kaufman, and Greg German. What a treat to perform with such great musicians!
This year has been full of exciting opportunities at the College. JAZZ-ology, our commercial Jazz Ensemble, was just chosen as a finalist for the Monterey Jazz Festival Next Generation Competition by the Berklee School of Music in Boston. They will be joined by JazzaNova and Jazz Singers this coming weekend at the Columbia Jazz Festival
The Vocal and Piano Programs seek to change lives, serve as a community educational hub, and promote musical excellence through strategic and diverse learning opportunities to the West Contra Costa County community. Through intensive musical, performance, and business training these programs make a positive difference in career possibilities, community musical offerings, and cultural engagement. All ethnicities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds converge and synergize through music honing their talent and pursuing their dreams.
