Laurie Lewis is recognized as one of the premiere bluegrass musicians in the world. She has distinguished herself as an accomplished singer, songwriter, fiddler, guitarist, bass player and bandleader. Known around the globe, Lewis won a Grammy in 1997 for True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe, and has twice been named as Female Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. Her most recent CD is Skipping and Flying, a tribute to Bill Monroe featuring songs from the bluegrass great as well as her own original songs. The Right Hands, Lewis's ace band - Tom Rozum, Chad Manning, Patrick Sauber and Sharon Gilchrist - are all bluegrass heavyweights in their own right. Point Richmond Acoustic co-producer Bruce Kaplan says "Laurie told us that she started out way back when playing with bands in the bars of Point Richmond. Happily, she's graduated to the church! What a treat to have Laurie here, close up and personal with her whole band. We are really lucky to have such great musicians to play for us." The opening act, American Nomad, is an acoustic duo comprised of Hassan El-Tayyab and Shiloh Parkerson, two singer/songwriters who are rooted in Americana and folk/swing traditions. Smart songwriting, catchy lyrics, tight rhythms, rich harmonies, and strong musicianship have already earned American Nomad a well-deserved reputation as an up and coming band that you "Just gotta see!".
