Spotlight on Lodging
EBLS Night

East Brother Lighthouse, or more accurately a Light Station, is a beautifully restored California Victorian Lighthouse Dinner, Bed & Breakfast Inn perched atop an island in the strait that separates San Francisco and San Pablo Bays.

Located 30 minutes from downtown San Francisco, CA, the lighthouse Dinner, Bed & Breakfast is close enough for a weekend jaunt or as a unique complement to your San Francisco/Northern California visit. Once on the island, visitors take in the spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline, Mount Tamalpais, and the Marin coastline.

East Brother LIght Station has been an active lighthouse for more than 133 years.  The Inn began operations over 30 years ago as a means of earning money for upkeep of the restored lighthouse and facilities.

The lighthouse offers the rare combination of both a "lighthouse dinner, bed & breakfast" and an "island Dinner, B&B," and is a unique California destination.  Though only a ten-minute boat ride to the island, the lighthouse inn seems to be a world away from the lights of the nearby cities.

Guests of East Brother Light Station have a direct impact upon its preservation.  Funds earned by the Inn, through its non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation, pay for ongoing restoration and maintenance costs of the buildings and equipment of the island.

Seeds of Freedom Film Screening

East Bay Center for the Performing Arts

339 11th Street

Wednesday, October 24th

6:00 pm

FREE Tickets here

In the spirit of the health and well-being of all Americans, Nutiva is presenting free public screenings of the film "Seeds of Freedom," a 30-minute film, produced by the Gaia Foundation and African Biodiversity Network, about the affect of GMO seeds on global farming in support of the November 6, 2012 PROP 37 RIGHT TO KNOW. Following each screening are panel discussions about the integrity of our food system, featuring speakers supporting the Campaign to Support 'THE RIGHT TO KNOW' and YES on CA PROP 37.

Seeds of Freedom, narrated by Jeremy Irons, charts the story of seed from its place at the heart of traditional, diversity-rich farming systems across the world, to its transformation into a powerful commodity, used to monopolize the global food system.

Community and sponsoring partners include LabelGMO.org, Institute for Responsible Technology, Bioneers, Earth Island Institute, Food Shift, The Gaia Foundation, African Biodiversity Network, Richmond Grows, Women's Earth Alliance and Wiser Earth.

Admission is FREE (Space is limited. Registration in advance suggested.)

Richmond High School Students Celebrate Math Success at

Community Organized Pro-FISH-iency Ceremony

Richmond High School

1250 23rd Street

Thursday, October 25th

Noon - 1:30 pm

Approximately 40 Richmond High School students who scored proficient or advanced in math on the California Standards Test will gather to celebrate their accomplishment by donning handmade knitted "fish hats" awarded by the East Bay Knitters Club at a community-organized event.

The fish hats that will be awarded are made of bright colors and have unique personalities.   The knitters belong to a knitting club at the Albany-based yarn shop k2tog which wanted to show community support for student accomplishments. k2tog's motto is "knitting the world together" and this ceremony is living proof of that ideal

The event is the second annual Pro-FISH-iency Hat Ceremony at Richmond High School, occurring this year for the first time as a district-approved activity. Community organizer and El Cerrito resident Alisa Stout stated, "We are very proud of the accomplishments of these students. Although we may not know them individually yet, we want to show that we care about them and their futures. The Pro-FISH-iency Hats are individually knitted with love for every single student."

NIAD's Halloween Pop-Up Art Shop

NIAD

551 23rd Street

Monday - Friday through October 31

9:00 am - 4:00 pm

This haunting season, we've turned the NIAD gift shop into a Halloween Pop-up Shop.

Leafing through the studio we've gathered some very practical objects (think ceramic dishes and vessels for treats or handmade costumes of birds and sea creatures) as well as some delightfully decorative pieces (like wonderful stuffed creatures and snakes). And we have a few paintings up that are certainly autumnal.

NIAD's Halloween Pop-up shop is open Monday through Friday from 9-4pm until October 31. And we're easy to find, just look for the tree wrapped in orange crepe paper, cobwebs and black balloons at 551 23rd Street in Richmond, California.

Add a few of our very unique pieces to your haunted house.
