Armstrong and Cooper Teams Receive Jefferson Awards for Community Service

Students from Armstrong and Cooper High Schools were honored for outstanding community service at the 2014 Jefferson Awards program held on April 12. Cooper received a Silver Banner and Armstrong received a Bronze as part of the program's Students in Action program.

The Students in Action program trains student leaders to effectively engage their school communities in meaningful volunteer service that positively impacts the greater community. Click here to learn more.

Robbinsdale Middle School Celebrates Honor Roll Students
Last Thursday, Principal John Cook and other Robbinsdale Middle School staff recognized students on its honor roll, or "Students With Awesome Grades (SWAG)" during a pep fest. Congratulations on your hard work!
 
Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion Honors Carter Zirbes
Crystal Mayor Jim Adams declared April 17 Carter Zirbes Day to honor his efforts to raise $17,500 for the Miracles of Mitch Foundation. Carter is a fourth grade student at RSI and has raised money for Miracles of Mitch since his first grade brother Axel was diagnosed with cancer. Carter hopes to raise more than $20,000 this summer and encourages students from all over the district to join his team. Click here to learn more.

Seven Dreams Foundation Delivers Hands-On Learning Grants
Last week, the Seven Dreams Education Foundation delivered exciting news to applicants who will receive a Hands-On Learning grant for the 2014-2015 school year. District staff is encouraged to apply for a grant that encourages hands-on learning and innovative thinking for students, staff and the community. In its 10th year, the foundation also presented its 100th grant to Robbinsdale Middle School teacher Matt Pletcher for the grant "Essential Minnesota." The grant will allow English Learners to experience important civic features of the Twin Cities. "This project will help our students develop language and content skills while gaining a greater understanding and appreciation of our civic treasures," Pletcher said in his grant. Click here to see a full list of grant recipients.

Two Cooper Teachers to Receive 'Teacher of Excellence' Awards

Cooper High School teachers Brooke Schaffer and Amanda Lieser were selected to receive Teacher of Excellence awards from BestPrep. Teacher of Excellence awards are given each year to the top 2 percent of teachers in the state who participate in BestPrep programming.  BestPrep is a statewide nonprofit organization with a mission to best prepare Minnesota students with business, career and financial literacy skills through experiences that inspire success in work and life. We Remember
Cecilia Svardal Passes Away

Former district employee Cecilia Svardal passed away on Sunday at the age of 79. Cecilia started working at Cooper in 1978 and retired in 1997 while working in the office at Sandburg Middle School. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, at noon at Danforth Community Church in Danforth Township.
