Cooper Orchestra Travels to New York City
The combined Cooper Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras performed three times in New York City over spring break last month. One performance was at the Concordia Learning Center at St. Joseph's School for the Blind. Students presented an interactive concert, in which they described and demonstrated each instrument of the orchestra in between pieces. Following the concert, Cooper students helped St. Joseph's students touch and pluck the strings of their instruments. "It was a very special experience for all involved," said orchestra director Emily Pflaum.

Zachary Lane Fundraising for Heifer International
Members of the Student Council at Zachary Lane presented a new fundraising project at the school last week. Students are encouraged to raise money for Heifer International, a non-profit organization that uses money to send animals to communities around the world. Zachary Lane's goal is to raise $5,000 by April 17, which would allow the school to donate a "Gift Ark." An ark includes two water buffalo, two cows, two sheep and two goats, along with bees, chicks, rabbits and more. An ark can make a difference to an entire community.
