School Board Approves New Strategic Plan
The School Board of Robbinsdale Area Schools approved a new strategic plan designed to increase the academic achievement of all students. The plan, which is called "Unified District Vision: High Intellectual Performance Through Equity," was developed after a year of collaboration among employees, students, families, and community members. Robbinsdale Area Schools Approves Q-Comp Plan for Teachers
The School Board of Robbinsdale Area Schools approved a Q-Comp plan to be implemented in the 2014-2015 school year. The Robbinsdale Federation of Teachers ratified the Q-Comp plan on February 28 at an overwhelming majority rate of 95%. Click here to read more about Q-Comp in our district.
Teacher of the Year Finalists Selected
A committee met to decide this year's Teacher of the Year Finalists in our district. The finalists are Amy Frink, Cooper High School; Mary Kunesh-Podein, Noble Elementary; Christine Dohrmann, Cooper High School; Lana Lindeman, Northport Elementary; Brook Schaffer, Cooper High School; Jacqueline Ballot, Noble Elementary and Kristine Ellis, Noble Elementary. Congratulations to everyone nominated!

Cooper Academic Pep Fest
More than 650 students were honored in Cooper's annual Academic Pep Fest last Friday. Students who are named to the school's honor roll after first semester grades are invited to celebrate in a school-wide assembly. Keep up the good work, Hawks!

Secondary Schools Participate in UMD Honor Band
Selected 8th and 9th grade band members from our secondary schools represented the district in the University of Minnesota Duluth Junior High Honor Band on March 4. Band students from all over Minnesota and western Wisconsin were in attendance. Robbinsdale Area Schools has proudly participated for more than 20 years. Way to represent Congratulations, students!
CenterPoint Energy Donates to Meadow Lake, Noble
Thanks to CenterPoint Energy for celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 3 with a one-time financial contribution to Meadow Lake Elementary (pictured) and Noble Elementary! The contribution will purchase new books for the schools. Volunteers from our Volunteers In Partnership (VIP) program read to our district's students in celebration of the national Read Across America day. Thank you to everyone who helped make it a great day to celebrate our students' love of reading!

Armstrong Quiz Bowl Qualifies for Nationals
For the seventh time, Armstrong Quiz Bowl is headed to the NAQT National tournament. The team finished 6th in the Minnesota High School Quiz Bowl League on Feb. 27. Sophomore Jack Brandes led the team in scoring and was recognized as the 2nd overall scorer in the North Division this year. Captain and Senior Alina Dain is going to her 3rd national tournament, the only Armstrong quiz bowl player ever to do so. Other varsity team members are seniors Caitlin Lancaster, Josh Lucas and Max Johnson. The group has 20 members total and practices every week. Congratulations!

 Tom Chepokas Passes Away Long-time band teacher Tom Chepokas passed away on March 6. Tom was a teacher in Robbinsdale Area Schools from 1967-1996. He worked at Hosterman Junior High, Meadow Lake Elementary, Neill Elementary, Zachary Lane Elementary, Forest Elementary and New Hope Elementary. A ceremony will be held Saturday, March 22, at Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet at 1 p.m. with visitation beginning at noon. Click here to read his obituary. |
