Freedom Rider Presents to Several Schools
Freedom rider Bettie Mae Fikes returned to our schools again this year in honor of Black History Month. Bettie's first stop was at Sonnesyn Elementary on Monday but she traveled to several schools throughout the week to present about her time as a freedom rider during the Civil Rights Movement. Robbinsdale Middle School's Read Across America Day
To celebrate Read Across America Day and I Love to Read month, every student at Robbinsdale Middle School, along with all staff and community guests, paused for an hour on Friday to sit down and read a book. In the second annual RMS Read Across America Day, adults and students alike celebrated lifelong reading and learning by silently reading a book or magazine. Local police officers, firefighters and local politicians were invited to support our students and the RMS goal of cultivating lifelong readers and learners by participating in Read Across America. Northport Hosts Fuel Up to Play 60 Breakfast
On Friday, Feb. 14, Northport welcomed families to enjoy breakfast with students during the event Pastries for Parents. Approximately 300 people were served breakfast that included their choice of a muffin or donut, juice, coffee and a yogurt parfait. This activity was sponsored by the PTA & the Fuel Up to Play 60 Team.
Heather's Manor Donates Hand-Knit Winter Clothing
The Heather's Manor Knitting Group knitted scarves and hats for about 30 students at Neill Elementary, as well as a few warm fleece blankets. Those are sure to help keep our students warm on a cold winter day!
