Legislative Action Coalition Newsletter

February 2014

Greetings!,

We are anxiously awaiting the start of the 2014 session on February 25. Even though session has not begun, there certainly is a lot of activity at the Capitol and with our legislators.

January was a busy month for the Legislative Action Coalition (LAC).  The 2014 Legislative Platform was unanimously adopted by the Robbinsdale Area Schools (RAS) School Board.  At the annual LAC legislative breakfast, the group shared the platform with a number of our representatives.  There was a great discussion on the Minnesota Safe and Supportive Schools Act, AKA the Bullying Bill as well as how the mental and physical  health of our students impacts learning.  It was a great morning and we really appreciate the time our legislators took out of their day to join us.

The LAC is a co-sponsor of a series of parent advocacy workshops aimed at building relationships to advocate for students.  Three of the largest school districts in the Twin Cities metro area are partnering with Parents United for Public Education.    The first workshop focused on the ins and outs of the Minnesota Legislature, working to answer the question "What is the relationship between the Legislature and my school?"  There are two more FREE workshops in February and March.  Please see below for additional information.

The LAC invites you to participate with us in whatever way works for you! Please let us know if you are interested in:

  • Joining one of our discussions with our representatives
  • Working with us to share your personal story on how public education impacts your family or community
  • Attending periodic workshops offered with our partners
  • Like us on Facebook
  • Share our information with friends
Please call 763-504-4087 or email for more information.
