Assistant Principal Hired at Meadow Lake Elementary 
 

Robbinsdale Area Schools is excited to welcome Luis Vanegas as the new assistant principal at Meadow Lake Elementary beginning with the 2013-2014 school year.  Mr. Vanegas has seven years of administrative experience, and comes to us from Phoenix, Ariz., where he served as principal, assistant principal, test coordinator and athletic coordinator of Southwest Elementary School.  His experience also includes being an elementary bilingual teacher, as he is fluent in Spanish and Italian.  He is excited to come back to Minnesota, as he received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science and International Banking from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities, and his Master's degree in Educational Administration from Capella University in Minneapolis.  


Robbinsdale Debate Team Finishes Third in the Country
 

Graduating senior Celisia Stanton from Cooper High School  took home third place honors in the nation in the Lincoln-Douglas debate. This finish bests Cooper's previous two trips to the national tournament, where they took 8th and 13th. Stanton will receive a scholarship from Lincoln Financial Group, a primary sponsor of the national tournament, for her outstanding finish. The Robbinsdale Cooper Debate Team was awarded a Debate School of Honor Award in this national tournament, which is the largest academic competition in the world. Congratulations to all of our excellent debaters!

Armstrong Girl's Lacrosse Team Wins Consolation Bracket at State

Congratulations to Armstrong High School's girl's lacrosse team for winning the consolation bracket in the state tournament! We're proud of all your hard work this season and for making it to your first ever state tournament!
 

Armstrong Group to Visit Japan

 

As part of the Kakahashi/New Youth Exchange Program,  Armstrong students will travel in Japan, visit schools and give presentations on Armstrong High School and the community.  As part of this program, students participating are required to conduct several outreach activities at Armstrong and in the community to share what was experienced and learned during this study tour. Adult Academic Program Graduates 100 Students
 
This year, the Adult Academic Program had 100 adult GED & diploma graduates. These students have made education a priority in their busy lives and are on to bigger and better plans. They now have college, work promotions, and technical training in their futures. Congratulations, graduates!
 
District News
Education Service Center Temporary Closure 
 
Due to an electrical fire on June 28 which resulted in damage to the electrical distribution system at the Education Service Center (ESC), the district office is closed at this time. Most services are relocated to Armstrong High School. The main ECS number is the same:  763-504-8000.  Service hours at Armstrong for ESC personnel will continue to be summer hours of 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. We'll provide more information on the website,  Facebook and Twitter as it becomes available.

Interschool Council Event
The Interschool Council is hosting the 1st Annual Parent Group (PTA/PTO) and Booster Conference from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15 at Sandburg Learning Center, 2400 Sandburg Lane, Golden Valley. Guest presenters will briefly cover a range of topics, including promoting events, understanding insurance, reserving district facilities and more.
                                                     
Armstrong Car Wash

After the recent storms forced the cancellation of the June event, the Robbinsdale Armstrong High School Bands has rescheduled their car wash fundraiser from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 19 at Almsted's Fresh Market, 4200 Douglas Drive North in Crystal. Donations will be accepted at the event. The band is raising money for upcoming concert tours. 

                                                    
Volunteer at Duk Duk Daze
The New Hope Women of Today are still in need of volunteers to help us with the Kiddie Games at Duk Duk Daze, July 19-21.This is a great opportunity for NHS students, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to get in volunteer hours too. Click here to sign up or for more information.
                                                    
Shatter the Silence 5k
Christopher Benz  was a senior at Armstrong when he took his own life six years ago.  Since then, his mom has worked to bring awareness to suicide prevention with the Christopher Benz Foundation.  Want to help the cause? Join them for the Shatter the Silence 5K at 7:30 a.m. this Sunday, July 14, at Armstrong High School
