Meadow Lake Kindergartners 'Jump for Joy'

This spring, the kindergartners in Mrs. Miller's class at Meadow Lake were literally "Jumping for Joy" when each one of them was given the opportunity to make their very own jump ropes.  Mr. and Mrs. Schneider, grandparents of a student, donated materials, energy and time to help each student make their very own unique jump rope. Students were able to choose from 18 different colors of string to make their jump rope. Thanks to Mr. Schneider for hand carving the wooden handles. Students enjoyed making something from scratch and it's an experience they'll never forget!

Two District Destination ImagiNation Teams Perform at Globals

Congratulations to both the Neill Ostriches and Lakeview's Dangerous Pie Destination ImagiNation teams for participating in the 2013 DI Global Tournament held in May. Both teams did well and had fun. While the Ostriches, coached by Ken Strand, have been to Globals before, this was the first time in over 20 years that a team from Lakeview qualified for Globals, and Dangerous Pie placed 11th! They missed the top ten by less than five points (out of over 200 points)! Good job to both teams!

Changes in State Assessments Mean New Baselines, New Requirements

Students across the state of Minnesota took the new Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) in Reading this spring, and test results will come out later this summer. These results should not be compared to earlier MCA Reading tests, but rather will provide districts with a new baseline from which to measure growth in future years. Additionally, with the passage of recent legislation, Minnesota students are no longer required to take high school exit GRAD tests; rather, the tests have been replaced with tests aimed at better preparing students for post-secondary and workplace success. Click here to read the letter from Minnesota Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius regarding these new changes.
