We'd like to make this process as smooth as possible and remind everyone of the different ways to share information. You can reach Tia at tia_clasen@rdale.org and 763-504-8029
or Tara at tara_cegla@rdale.org and 763-504-8031 , or post on the Robbinsdale Area Schools Facebook page. Starting this week, Discover will come out on Tuesdays so please be sure to send materials by noon on Fridays.   High Schools Make Washington Post List of Most Challenging in Country

Congratulations to Robbinsdale Armstrong and Robbinsdale Cooper High Schools, both of which were named in the Washington Post Most Challenging High Schools List for 2013. This list ranks schools by using the total number of rigorous tests given (such as AP and IB exams) divided by the number of seniors who graduated.

Approximately 9 percent of the country's schools are named, including 27 from Minnesota. Armstrong ranked 10th in Minnesota and 634 nationally; Cooper ranked 27th in Minnesota and 1,945 nationally. We're

preparing our students for a lifetime of success!

SEA Receives Gardening Grant from National Gardening Association, Jamba Juice

The School of Engineering and Arts (SEA) was selected as one of 40 winners from a pool of more than 900 applicants for the 2013 Jamba Juice "It's All About the Fruits and Veggies"$500 Grant Award. Administered by the National Gardening Association and funded by Jamba Juice, SEA will receive $400 in garden supplies and a $100 check to use for the purchase of soil amendments and plantings.

Last fall, SEA began the installation of its Native Butterfly Garden and a citizen scientist tulip raised bed for kindergarten students to monitor. This spring and fall, they will install a Native Prairie Patch with parent-donated seeds and plants. Cara Rieckenberg, the STEAM Program Coordinator, hopes to build and install raised beds for vegetable gardens.

"We want these outdoor learning spaces created for enhanced experiential learning opportunities for our students. So many of our standards lend themselves to garden exploration," Rieckenberg said. "What better way to STEAM-ify a lesson than actually living it through a garden?"
