Cargill Donation to Help with STEM Curriculum at RMS

Photo: Mike Hastert and RMS Principal John Cook receive the check from representatives of Cargill's Salt Division.

Mike Hastert, the 7th Grade Dean of Students at Robbinsdale Middle School, applied for a grant from Cargill and last week, a check for $10,000 was presented to the school. Hastert said the money will help purchase an iPad mobile learning lab and 20 other iPads for the first year of STEM curriculum at RMS this fall.

"STEM students would be able to use the iPads for personalized learning that would allow for differentiated reading levels, language translation and STEM specific applications to enhance student engagement and academic success," Hastert said.

Way to go, Mr. Hastert!

RMS Principal John Cook Spoke to Northport Students for Power Mondays

Robbinsdale Middle School Principal John Cook spoke to Northport Elementary students about his difficult childhood and how to overcome life's obstacles for "Power Mondays." The weekly program is aimed to get students off to a good start for the week. Northport brings in positive role models to speak to third, fourth and fifth grade boys to motivate and energize students to have a positive week.

"One of the decisions I made at a very early age was that, I made the decision that I was going to be educated. I made the decision at an early age that I was going to go to college and not only go to college, but to finish," Cook said.

Celebrate the Poets in our District
April is National Poetry Month and we'd like to recognize the students who are learning the difficult writing form. Students can either share their work on Twitter, using @ISD281 or #RASpoetry, post them to our Facebook page or email tara_cegla@rdale.org. We'll share the poems as they come in. Can't wait to see what our student poets can create!
