December 2012

Greetings!

Getting Ready for 2013 Legislative Session

'Twas just a few weeks before session
And all through the House  (and  Senate)
All representatives were scurrying, moving offices about.
The committees were chosen, each one with great care,
In hopes of bills passing throughout the air.

Constituents were happy  - election commercials dead
While visions of bi-partisanship danced around in each head.
And Governor Dayton  with his  task forces selected,
Had recommendations for those politicians elected.

When out in D.C. there arose such a clatter,
Congress sprang to their chambers  to see what was the matter.
When out in the country a cliff was in sight,
A huge situation, a significant fiscal plight.

The eighth day of January seems really quite far,
But we simply don't need a partisan war.
Don't start the new session with talk of deficits and surplus,
Just help us fund education, and stop all the fuss.

With many policies seemingly broken
Our new leadership promised to hear all that is spoken.
More women and new House members came,
The Education committee chairs selected and called by name:
Now Mariani! Now Marquart!
Now, Wiger and Bonoff!
On, Torres Ray! On, Metzen!
On Mullery!  On Carlson!

To the hearings, to the meetings,
Heed Dayton's call!
Now vote today! Vote today!
Vote today all!

School Board Approves 2013 Platform and Adopts Resolution

On December 3rd, the Robbinsdale Area School school board adopted the Legislative Action Committee's 2013 Legislative Platfrom.

Also at that meeting the board unanimously passed a resolution urging all of the federally elected officials to act on the Budget Control Act of 2011 and avoid further cuts to education.  Letters and a copy of the resolution were sent to Senators Klobuchar and Franken as well as Representatives Paulsen and Ellison.   The MN School Board Association is encouraging other districts to do the same.

The district received a call from Senator Franken's MN office (because of the resolution) inviting Superintendent Sicoli  or a school board member to attend a meeting about the impact of sequestration on public school districts.
