Winter Clothing Drive                                     
Until December 7, the New Hope Women of Today, along with Robbinsdale Area Schools, are holding a winter clothing drive.  New and gently used coats, snow pants, boots, hats, mittens and scarves in sizes from birth to adult will be collected at area schools as well as New Hope Learning Center and New Hope City Hall.  Your contributions are greatly appreciated. Thank you for making someone's winter warmer.

Holiday Shopping Night for ECFE

Get all of your holiday shopping done in one night, in one place, and support Robbinsdale Area Schools ECFE Community members and their business ventures!  Vendors are crafters with homemade items such as pottery, photography, and scarves along with home-based businesses such as Pampered Chef, Norwex, Miche and more.  Vendors will be supplying items for a raffle as well.  Join us on Wed., Dec. 5, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at New Hope Learning Center, 8301 47th Ave. N., New Hope.  Get additional  information by clicking here.

Truth in Taxation Hearing Certifies Levy for 2013

district 281 logo The Truth in Taxation Public Hearing was held on Monday, December 3.  The public had an opportunity to receive information and provide input on the District's current budget and the proposed levy for taxes payable in 2013. The levy information presented was the Payable 2013 levy that will fund school operations for the 2013-2014 school year.

The total proposed levy for taxes payable in 2013 is $52,755,251, which is a decrease of $1,126,247 - or 2.09% - from the prior year. The voter approved referendum levy, along with referendum prior year adjustments, accounts for over 45% of the District's total levy.

The referendum levy provides revenue to help support general fund operations. For taxes payable in 2013, the current referendum levy will provide $22,894,033 in total revenue.  More information can be found here.

Winter Weather Closing Information 

The winter season is approaching!  Decisions on school cancellations, late starts and early dismissals are always given careful consideration. When it is necessary to cancel school or start late, the decision is usually made by 5:30 a.m.  You can find information about school cancellations, late starts and early dismissals by going to www.Rdale.org, on our district Facebook page:  www.facebook.com/RobbinsdaleAreaSchools, on Twitter at www.twitter.com/ISD281 , and also on the four major network television stations:  WCCO-TV (channel 4), KSTP-TV (channel 5),

Nominations for Teacher of the Year and EA of the Year due Dec 10

 

There's still time to recognize the amazing work of our teachers and education assistants in Robbinsdale Area Schools.  Nominate a district teacher or education assistant for Teacher of the Year or EA of the Year through December 10.  These are recognition programs through Education Minnesota that lead to the National Teacher of the Year and Education Support Professional of the Year, as Victoria Arabanos from PMS knows - she was recently named the  Minnesota ESP of the Year!  Anyone can nominate - teachers, students, parents and community members.  Self nominations are also accepted.  This is a great way to applaud the work of someone who has made a difference in your life or the life of a child. Elders' Wisdom, Children's Song Celebrates Elders, Diversity

A celebration honoring four community elders is set for Thursday, December 13, 6 - 7 p.m. at Forest Elementary School in Crystal.  Elders' Wisdom, Children's Song celebrates American stories and heroes, bringing them to the classroom to share their oral history with our younger generation.  Join in celebrating and honoring Maria de Jesus Vega Carillo, Charles Goah, Avaloy Mitchell and Kellie Kreller.

Youth Summit had Students "Stepping Into Greatness"

On November 27, over 120 middle school AVID and student lead groups from PMS and RMS attended the Discover U Youth Summit at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley.  The theme this year was "Stepping Into Your Greatness" and students listened to a keynote address from Life and Academic Coach Nancy Hellendar Pung.  Students participated in workshops about smart learning, honoring values, and stepping out of one's comfort zone.  Students will take what they learned in this active day and continue their work on leadership within their schools. They will also collectively plan and execute a service project within their school.  Well done, future leaders!

Passport to the Arts Opportunities in December

Recently, students in grades 1 through 5 received a Passport to the Arts in their music class.  When students attend various arts events in the district, they will receive cool stickers and can collect them in their Passport.  A list of upcoming events can be found by clicking here or on the Passport icon on each elementary school's website.  Enjoy the month of December with the many arts opportunities available!

Plymouth Middle School Presents The Wizard of Oz
  
Sixty students at Plymouth Middle School will be acting, singing and dancing in the popular musical The Wizard of Oz.  This wonderful show is double-cast and will be performed on the stage of Robbinsdale Middle School, 3730 Toledo Ave. N., Robbinsdale, December 7 and 8.  All performances at 7 p.m. Tickets $6/Adults, $4/Students.

Robbinsdale Middle School Theater Presents Andy Jr.

This is a new interpretation of the classic Annie Jr.  which features the music from the musical Annie, which debuted on Broadway in 1977.   Follow the wide-ranging adventures of Andy, his dog Sandy, and "Daddy" Warbucks.  Performances will be December 13 and 14, 7:30 p.m. and December 15 at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m.  Tickets $5 general admission; $3 students.

Barb Lehman Inducted into Derham Hall Athletic Hall of Fame
Barb Lehman
Long time employee and advocate for Title IX and equality in sports, Barbara A. Lehman was inducted into the Cretin-Derham Hall Athletic Hall of Fame on Sunday, December 2.  Lehman was the former athletic director at Robbinsdale Cooper High School where the football stadium is named in her memory.

Food Drive Fills Shelves at NEAR and PRISM 

The Robbinsdale Area Schools food drive held in October was overwhelmed with donations. 4,700 pounds of food was donated to NEAR food shelf and 2,900 pounds of food was donated to PRISM.  Thank you to all who participated.
