What's that "Buzz" at Sonnesyn?
Sonnesyn Elementary School students and staff were offered a challenge by new principal, Leia Ward. During their most recent Scholastic Book Fair, they decided to do a coin collection to earn books for classrooms. Principal Ward set four different goal levels and awards:
- Level I: $75.00 - Principal Ward would play outside with the students during recess - Level II: $150.00 - Principal Ward would sing a song on the morning announcements - Level III: $225.00 - Principal Ward would color her hair black and yellow for the day (since Sonnesyn's mascot is the bee) - Level IV: $300 - Principal Ward would buzz around Sonnesyn in a bee costume on roller skates, passing out buzz notes. As luck had it for the students, donations totaled $573.44 and Scholastic matched it with donations to non-profit organizations which help kids in need. Congratulations Sonnesyn Elementary! ____________________________________________________________
Volunteers Needed for Minnesota College Application Week at Cooper High School
Robbinsdale Cooper High School is a College Application week site again this year and they are in need of volunteers. This will take place the week of November 12-16. Volunteers are needed to help sign students in, work the Help Desk, work one-on-one with students who are applying, and being a general assistant in the college application process. There will be a high school counselor available for assistance.
All volunteers need to register by going to www.mn-acac.org. The link to register is located on the far right of the menu bar above the member login box. You need not worry about logging in; only members of the Minnesota Association for College Admissions Counseling (MACAC) need to log in. Simply click "Continue" to reach the registration page. Once registered on the site, you'll be contacted by a Cooper staff member.
The school is looking for 3-5 volunteers to cover each shift. Shifts would be a minimum of one hour, but you can sign up for more than one hour if you have the time. So they're looking for a lot of volunteers! This is a great way to engage and inform under-represented students, including first generation college students, about the college application process. Thank you for considering this great volunteer effort!
