|The Fiscal Situation and Protecting the Vulnerable|
Washington has been abuzz with the fiscal cliff vote (our staff friends on Capitol Hill were at their desks on New Year's Eve), the swearing in of the 113th Congress, and soon the Inauguration activities. In the next few weeks, Congress will be focusing on:
AJFCA will continue to play an active role in making sure that programs supporting vulnerable populations remain strong. Please review this comprehensive outlook of what's on the horizon and how AJFCA and JFNA intend to play a role. Please contact Shelley Rood if you have any questions.
- FY 13 Appropriations which still are not complete. The continuing resolution ends in March.
- State of the Union Address - expected 1/29
- President's FY 14 Budget - release expected soon after State of the Union
- Sequestration - It's still not over! Many programs we support would be subject to across-the-board cuts.
- Raising the debt ceiling. The President says he will not negotiate over this and Congress must pay the bills it has incurred. We expect it to be a fight nonetheless.

|2013 Government Affairs Institute & AJFCA Advocacy Mission|
Registration for the 2013 Government Affairs Institute and AJFCA Advocacy Mission (GAI) is filling up.
The deadline for guaranteed hotel accommodations at the discounted rate is Friday, January 11, 2013.
Based on the successful 2012 AJFCA Advocacy Mission held in partnership with the Government Affairs Institute, we plan to repeat and improve upon this expanded format. We have revised the program and content based on your feedback, and this program will offer topics that are timely and relevant to your work. Capitol Hill visits will be planned in advance. Additionally, we are aiming for a White House component, which would be new for the GAI. We strongly encourage you to attend.
The GAI will be held from Tuesday, February 5 - Thursday, February 7, 2013, in Washington, DC and you can register through this link. Registration closes on Tuesday, January 22, 2013.
The GAI is our premier gathering of professionals and lay leaders who are interested in public policy. The GAI brings together professionals and volunteers from Jewish family and children's service agencies and Federations to advocate on policies that impact the vulnerable populations that you serve.Throughout the GAI you will hear from distinguished leaders from the Administration and Congress and you will have the opportunity to meet individually with your community's Congressional representatives.
