A Few Ways to Celebrate Coward's 115th Birthday...
Gladly we sing Noël. One day of celebration -- December 16th -- is not enough.  Here are a few ways to continue the jolly times:
  • Love, Noël, extended at the Wallis Annenberg in Beverly Hills through December 28th, starring Harry Groener and Sharon Lawrence.
  • Blithe Spirit: Angela Lansbury at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles through January 18, 2015.  Plus, Director Christopher Liam Moore's production in Portland, Oregon -- extended through January 4th, at the Artists Repertory Theatre.
  •  Take a look at the Playbill Vault listings for Coward, with program notes dating back to 1924:  playbill vault nc

It is a wonderful life.  A special holiday greeting arrived in my email...  from the Lancaster Family! See below for the meme. (On Dec. 13th, Nicky and his mother Florence -- with their family and friends -- completed a successful run in The Vortex at the Matrix Theatre in LA.)

Wishing you warm and wonderful holidays!

Following a sold-out engagement last season, Love, Noël -- a cabaret performance, based on Barry Day's book The Letters of Noël Coward and featuring songs by Coward -- returns to the Lovelace Studio Theatre at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills.

Starring Harry Groener (Broadway's Crazy for You, Cats, and Oklahoma!) as Noël Coward, and Emmy nominee Sharon Lawrence  (NYPD Blue, Broadway's Chicagoas many of the women who were an integral part of Coward's life and influenced his work.

Love, Noël transforms the Lovelace Studio Theater into an intimate lounge with bar service for an entertaining performance that intertwines Coward's music with a witty exchange of letters between him and his family and friends across the years.

"It's not often we get to see Coward plays anymore, but this comedy makes for a fun evening in the theater. There may be no Santa Claus or Scrooge in this play, but Artists Rep's "Blithe Spirit" should fit nicely into the holiday plans of many Portlanders - at least those who desire spirited urbane comedy spiced with warm-hearted laughter for their cold winter nights."

Rave Reviews for Blithe Spirit

"When Angela Lansbury takes the stage as Madame Arcati, a supernatural charge is instantly detectable...comic radiance... diamond-sharp wit."
            - Charles McNulty, Los Angeles Times

"So good you may want to see it again...come for Angela Lansbury but stay for Charles Edwards and the rest of the outstanding cast in Michael Blakemore's sparkling production."
           - Jordan Riefe, The Hollywood Reporter

Following the internationally acclaimed sold-out engagements on Broadway and London's West End, theatre legend, Oscar-recipient, and five-time Tony Award® winner Angela Lansbury returns to the stage in December in her Tony Award® winning role as Madame Arcati.
