       Gamka started in business 30 years ago on April 1, 1986! To celebrate the three decades of serving the construction trades we held an Open House and invited our customers and manufacturers to an all day food fest and opportunity to meet vendors, see demos and to say hello to Karl and Lydia Weiss who came back from their new retirement home in Florida for the occasion. In addition to mounds of homemade food and snacks, there were gifts, raffles and a good time was had by all.  If you missed it, be sure to keep an eye out for the announcement of our 50th Anniversary Open  House in 2036. Just don't look for me, though!

       And now on to other issues. Your Editor is not about to endorse any presidential candidates ---- yet ---- and may not.  Despite that, if you are a regular visitor to this column, knowing who I won't back will be easy.  What will I do?  I will endorse principles. The presidential contenders need to focus on issues. Let's hear their plans for the country and not who did what to whose wife.   For example, it is high time that our allies know to trust us and our enemies to fear us. We are at war, one we did not start but a fight that we need to finish. It won't happen if our leaders do not want to win. Our armed forces have been deliberately reduced to levels insufficient for the United States to defend itself in more than a large skirmish according to reliable sources.  I doubt that World War II would  have turned out as it did had there not been the will to kill the enemy and collateral damage be damned.
       The  Brussels tragedy is already one  of several too many atrocities by Islamic terrorists. Then on Easter Sunday, in a park in Lahore, India filled with children, another cowardly bombing and not the last, I predict. Doubtless, with our borders leaking like a sieve, there are  already foreign terrorists in our midst making plans to gain glory and 72 virgins.  We have our share of radicalized Americans, too, all with the propensity to explode. If we cannot get past the need to intelligently profile and drop the PC nonsense, we are doomed.  Cockroaches need to be exterminated, not nurtured.
       Another soap box I stand on is my distress that 50% of the population is unemployed. Millions of able-bodied people are living on the backs of the other half.  What happened to the  shame past generations felt when on welfare?  My parents and grandparents would have preferred to die than have the neighbors know they were on the public teat. Back then, it was called the Work Ethic, another almost dead moral.  You and I don't get something for nothing, why should anyone else? We support ourselves and the others too. What is fair about that?
       I want my country back and  it is on the brink of no return. Could I go on, yes, but I am giving myself acid re-flux. Hopefully, it isn't a heart attack.

SAFETY NEWS OF THE MONTH 
For ten years, Captain Safety made an appearance at New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association meetings every month. In addition to his striking bearing, he would deliver a poignant safety message, pertinent to the perils of the landscape industry. Last October, at two packed NJLCA meetings, Captain Safety announced he was being reassigned, perhaps to a retirement home in Ohio, that his work here was done. Those not present missed that message and rumors have been flying about his absence suggesting that he had had an accident. Not true, we can confirm!

At the end of each presentation, Captain Safety would point to his audience say, "Better safe than sorry! Repeat after me, Better safe that sorry!" And then he would disappear, speeding off to prevent an accident from happening. Now Captain Safety has only one last message and that is "Good bye, stay safe!"
