A friend of mine was 5'-6" in height. He wanted to be closer to 6' tall but never made it. He always thought that was not fair. Another person I know always wanted to be able to sing like an opera diva. Try as she might, no one would ever accuse her of succeeding and she has felt royally short-changed. I am the Charity Donation Chairman for my Knights of Columbus Council in the Township of Washington. My Brother Knights and I work hard to raise money to give it away to help others.  Last year we made over $60,000 in donations.  It was a drop in the bucket compared to the requests for help we receive daily. We just will never be able to help make everything better, there isn't enough money in the world.

It just isn't fair, is it? But that is how life is. When it comes to winning the lottery there is rarely more than one lucky individual getting the big prize.  Life is about winning and losing. We are not all equal and never will be.

At Assumption Church in Emerson, I am known as Bingo Bob, the Friday Night Bingo Caller. No Friday ever goes by without at least one player complaining to me that I did not call his or her numbers, hence I was to blame for their not getting any prize money. Every time I hear that, I remind them that I always call the right numbers for someone. We have a winner for every game and they should have bought the right number card.  To some, that sounds unsympathetic  but it is the reality. 

When I hear that phrase, "It's not fair!" from the mouths of our politicians and too many people who feel they have been cheated and want that injustice remedied, it means trouble. Santa Claus cannot fill every wish, every time.

Make the best with what you have, learn to live within your means, get used to it--- or work harder and change your situation.  That is what's fair! It is called opportunity. Take advantage while you can.
