United Way Board Announces Allocations
Over $500,000 Allocated
After two months of review and deliberations by two dozen community volunteeres, Valley United Way's Board of Directors has approved allocations of $506,850 for 2013-2014. CDW Wins 2013 Community Corporate Cup
| At the start of this year's Community Corporate Cup, CDW Joe Simone vowed to win back the Corporate Cup title that they lost to Fletcher Thompson by less than a point a year ago, and that's just what they did in posting an impressive win in what turned into a two-team battle with BIC for the title. CVC Chooses Seymour for Back to School Project

One school year has just ended and Valley United Way's Corporate Volunteer Council is already planning to make next year an even better year for students in Seymour. The Corporate Volunteer Council has selected Seymour elementary schools to benefit from the 2013 CVC Back to School Clothes for Kids Project. Last year, 193 students from Irving and Bradley Schools in Derby received their very own box of new clothing to begin the school year. To date the CVC has outfitted 2,396 Valley children and spent $449,940.

The last announced events results for this year's Corporate Cup were the Healthy Team results - the most important event in the Corporate Cup. FletcherThompson's Kelly Horan and Mike Bensh came out on top as FT dominated the event with three of the top five teams in a field of 34 teams. The Healthy Team event is designed to improve individual health through a series of tests and healthy activities over the course of three months. The teams are pre-tested by staff at GriffinHospital to get a base line score. They then have the opportunity to accumulate points for a series of healthy activites before returning to Griffin for post-testing and a final score. Click here for the complete results. |
Senior Services Council Offering Caregiver Workshops
The Valley Senior Services Council will once again be providing a series of Caregiver Workshops throughout the Valley. Funding has been provided by Valley United Way through a grant to TEAM, Inc.
The next program, Practicing Healhty Self-Care- Mind and Mental Health, on July 18th will be presented by Jennifer Welch, MSW, CHerish Health Coordinator, BHcare at the Joseph Doyle Senior Center 153 Main Street, Ansonia.  Leadership Greater Valley, a joint program of Valley United Way, the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Valley Council of Health & Human Services is now accepting applications for the 2013 program which begins in September.
