Selamat Siang!

That is how to say "Hello," or, rather, "Good Day" in Bahasa Indonesian.

We are excited about our current cooperative projects, pairing children in Chicago with children in India and Indonesia. We are also looking forward to another summer camp and our first International progressive dinner. For more information on these projects, read below.

Also, registration is currently under way for our after school programs at Waters Elementary School and Nettelhorst Elementary School. Check out the Right-At-School website to sign up.

International Progressive Dinner

Join Global Explorers Kids for a fun evening exploring the world through home-cooked cuisine. We are an international group, and we want to share our cultures with you by preparing some of our favorite dishes and family recipes.

In a progressive dinner, you move from location to location, enjoying a different course at each location. The progressive dinner will take place in Lincoln Square on Saturday, May 17th, beginning at 6:00 pm. The adventure includes savory appetizers from India, presented by Radhika Sharma, a delectable Mexican meal, prepared by Jenny and Andres Hernandez, and delicious Serbian desserts, courtesy of Holly Hutto and Sandy Devura. Each course will have drink pairings.

Seating is limited and is reserved for the first ten people to make a donation of $15. The full itinerary will be sent to participants.

Fundraiser Success!

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Carnival! with us in February. As always, it was a fun evening for the whole family. The tradition continued with live music by Mumble the Peg, Samba lessons with Yaasha Abraham, face painting and other fun activities with Pam Chermansky, plus Carnival crafts, the costume contest, and the lucky dip game which were enjoyed by all.

The highlight of any Carnival celebration is always the food, and Global Explorers Kids' Carnival! was no exception. Event goers were treated to an international feast, including pad thai from Rosded, falafel and hummus from Dawali, Einstein Bros. Bagels, plus the delicious cooking of our wonderful volunteer Sandy Devura, including her famous jambalaya, boudin balls, pulled pork, gibanica, curry chicken, and desserts.

A special thank you goes out to all the local businesses who donated items towards the silent auction. They are too numerous to mention here, but for a full list, check out our website--and be sure to share the love by patronizing these awesome businesses!

Cooperative Projects with Indonesia and India

Global Explorers Kids is working on two cooperative projects, connecting children in Chicago with children in India and Indonesia.

Preschoolers in Global Explorers Kids classes at All About Kids Learning Academy and Lakeshore Learning Academy are connecting with preschoolers at Dolphin School, in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, India. They are sharing handprints and "experience" boxes and creating art projects inspired by India.

In April and May,students in Chicago at Global Explorers Kids class at Marquette School of Excellence are connecting with students at Gaga Sceria Discovering English in Bandung, Indonesia  through a blog and cooperative art projects. The children will co-create a poem about freedom, which will be set to music that contains elements of Indonesian and American music. The students will learn the song and make up dance moves to share with each other. Visual arts projects will include artwork inspired by batik and graffiti art and quotes by Langston Hughes and Indonesian proverbs.
