School board searches for new superintendent

As many know by now, the DeForest Area School District's Board of Education is seeking a new superintendent. Dr. Jon Bales will be leaving our school district at the end of this school year to become the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators (WASDA).

The search process for a new superintendent began in
September and will conclude in early April. Information about the process is outlined on the DASD website at www.deforest.k12.wi.us hoose Superintendent Search under "News").

The Board of Education is interested in hearing from DASD stakeholders (parents, staff, students, and the community-at-large) as they move toward the interviewing and selection process. Residents are encouraged to complete a survey, which is currently available on the Superintendent Search webpage (link to survey below). The survey will be available until November 16.

For those unable to take the survey online, paper copies are available in all of DASD schools and several public buildings (Village of DeForest, Town of Windsor, Town of Burke, and Town of Vienna offices; DeForest Area Public Library, and DeForest Area Community & Senior Center).

End in Mind: Student Learning

In 2009 the Board of Education hosted a future search conference, called Framework for Our Future 2.0. A similar conference was also held in 1999. At both of these three-day conferences, a representative group of citizens and educators laid out the foundation for the vision of the school district.

The Board used this input to design the district's Mission, Vision and Belief

Statements, as well as the key purposes of our work ("End in Mind") centered around two areas: community and students. These fundamental priorities drive our district's policies, practices, and continuous improvement efforts.

The learning goals that reflect the community's vision for students has been further developed. These, in conjunction with the State of Wisconsin's common core standards, will serve as the framework for curriculum, instruction and

assessment in the DeForest Area School District. The 47 student learning goals are organized into Personal and Interpersonal Effectiveness Competencies consisting of seven subgroups (shown below).
