Jaguar by Steve Metildi There is little more exciting in wildlife photography than spotting a jaguar at first light. Most of the time these beautiful cats are hidden deep in the foliage but in the Pantanal wetlands of Brazil they often come to the river bank to hunt caiman and capybara and to look for potential mates. Jaguars are the world’s third largest cat species after the tiger and lion and are the largest cat in the western hemisphere. The jaguar subspecies found in the Pantanal is the largest with adult males reaching up to 300 pounds. Equipment Used: Photographed from a boat, Canon 1Dx, 500mm w/ 1.4 teleconverter, ISO 2000, 1/640 sec, f/8, Induro monopod with RRS monopod head.
