Arctic Fox Hudson Bay, Manitoba by Charles Glatzer I love photographing in snow and harsh winter conditions, especially the Polar Regions. Capturing wildlife struggle for survival in severe wind, with double digit temps well below freezing, and snow is certainly challenging for both man and equipment. But, the stark often surreal graphic quality of images produced in these conditions continue to lure me back year after year. 2014 marks the 11th year in a row of my returning to the sub-arctic for polar bears and arctic wildlife. I feel privileged to photograph and share these animals in an environment most will never get to, nor want to, experience. When wind conditions get severe the arctic fox will curl up, nose to tail, in a depression or leeward side of a rock to get out of the wind. Equipment Used: 1DX, EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4X @ 480mm, 1/500 @ f/11, ISO 800

Copyright F.M. Kearney The Best Time of Year for a
Polar Bear Safari
by Steve Blandin “When is the best time of year to go on a polar bear safari?” That was my initial inner question, when my wife showed interest in exploring the possibilities. I knew we did not want to go as far as Northern Europe, and as it turned out Canada was in fact the place with a bigger population anyway. Now set on finding a great spot in Canada, it seemed… Continue reading »

Springtime at Chincotague Island with Nikhil Bahl, May 16-18, 2014
Spring is a great time to be at Chincoteague! This workshop will cover how to think conceptually and create abstracts of common subjects to challenge the viewer's perceptions. We will create abstract art with flowing water and photograph ocean views, beach scenes, patterns and textures in the sand, marshes and plant life. You can expect to see and possibly photograph many different bird species of birds that return to the island in the spring. There may be opportunities to photograph the fabled Chincoteague Ponies, Sika Deer and other wildlife that inhabits the island. Continue reading »
