| Sandhill Crane with Chicks by Kathy Urbach (aka Katlady) This is a fantastic time of year to live in Florida. We have the opportunity to shoot a lot of nesting birds, one of my favorites is the Sandhill Crane. They are nesting everywhere; golf courses, retention ponds, backyards and parks. This particular family was at a retention pond. I spent over an hour trying to stay ahead of them as to have the best light. The chicks moved extremely quickly trying to keep up with mom and dad. Since I handhold this takes a lot of walking backward so as not to miss anything. This shot was taken along the edge of the pond. It is very unusual to have two chicks standing so calmly by waiting to be fed. Usually they are trying to "out do" the other chick trying to get to the food first. I just loved the interaction with the mother. Equipment Used: Canon EOS-1D-Mark III, Canon Lens EF 400mm 1:5.6, 1/1000sec, f8. Handheld. | |||||||||

The Privilege of Nature Photography
by Bret Edge
One day, a woman and her friend walked into my gallery to look at some images. My wife chatted with them during their visit and learned that they were truck drivers from Texas. They saw a lot of country in their travels but always from the road, at 65 mph and at the wheel of a semi-truck while adhering to a tight delivery schedule. The ladies lingered in the gallery for a while, complimenting my work and enjoying… Continue reading »
