Red Fox Near Churchill, Manitoba by Steven Metildi

While driving in a truck and scanning for Polar Bears and other wildlife outside Churchill, Manitoba I spotted this stunning Red Fox actively hunting in fresh snow. Staying right next to the vehicle since there can be Polar Bears anywhere around Churchill, I photographed this fox for several minutes until he disappeared into the forest. Not too surprisingly I had success finding Polar Bears and fox on the roads outside town as well as in the traditional Churchill Tundra Buggy. It's great to find wildlife off the road as you can photograph your subjects at eye level.

Equipment Used: Canon 1Ds Mark III, Canon 600mm, Gitzo CF Tripod w/ Wimberley ver 2 head, ISO 800, 1/2500 sec, f/7.1 (The fox was hunting and it was fast!)

by Piper Mackay

Wildlife photography can be very exciting. With your adrenalin running on overdrive, it is easy for photographers to get caught up in the action of the moment and just snap away without giving too much thought to our photography. Despite how spectacular the events you witnessed may have been, the images you've captured just don't seem to share the impact of the… Continue reading »

Perhaps I'm biased, having "grown up" in a film photography world. Back then, more often then not sharing images meant putting slides into slide pages, with twenty images per page. And I actually spent time thinking about which order the images would… Continue reading »

Don't you just love it when someone views your work and the "oohs" and "aahs" ensue only to be followed by "Gee, you must have a great camera." Doesn't that just steam your clams? I wonder if these same people tell an author, "Gee, you must have a… Continue reading »
