To celebrate another year of learning, fun experiences, and new memories, our Prevention Department's after school program went out with a bang and took a field trip to Sky Zone Trampoline Park. On May 14th, over 50 girls from the Elementary, Middle, and High School groups attended the field trip and spent the evening jumping and playing games.

Throughout the year, the after school program incorporates fun activities, like jumping on trampolines, as a way to promote physical fitness amongst the girls in the program. Some of the participants shared that the Sky Zone field trip was the most challenging physical activity they had ever done.

Another highlight from the trip included two visually impaired participants from the middle school group. The girls were so excited to attend and, after some practice, had a great time jumping and having fun with the rest of the group.

Although lots of fun was had during the after school program this year, most girls were even more excited for what is to come. This Saturday, the middle school group participants with improved or spectacular GPAs will be taking a field trip to Kalahari Waterpark and on July 6 AFG's Rise N' Shine summer camp will begin.

AFG Unveils New Donor Recognition Tree

Over AFG's 27-year existence, we have had countless numbers of generous donors, volunteers, and supporters who have made our mission possible. To recognize AFG donors who have both saved our programs during times of need and funded new programs to provide new opportunities for our participants, AFG revealed its first ever donor recognition display this month.

The display, pictured above, includes the names of over 100 individuals who have given $7,500 to $750,000 over AFG's entire 27-year history. Donor's names were engraved on either a leaf or rock to symbolize how they have helped AFG grow and provide life-changing opportunities to those who need them.

On May 1, AFG held an event to celebrate our donors, to reveal the new donor recognition display, and to celebrate the success of the Securing the Future Campaign. Each individual whose name was included on the tree was invited to the event to witness the unveiling and to find his or her name on the tree. During the event's short program, Amy Good, AFG CEO, and Michelle Crockett, Chair of AFG Board of Directors, thanked guests for their continued and steadfast support during AFG's history.

Guests were invited to share why they support Alternatives For Girls as donors, volunteers, and even as former or current staff members. "I support Alternatives For Girls because I know of no other organization that makes such a positive, long-term, tangible difference to girls and young women. I know that every dollar I give, or time I spend, will be used to make a difference. Lives are turned around, girls succeed, the cycle of poverty is stopped," one guest shared.

To conclude the program, AFG participants also thanked the guests and shared their hopes for AFG's future. Isabel, a participant in the Prevention Department, shared "I also have two little sisters who come to the after school program in the elementary group. They tell me what they learned and how great it is. After hearing about how much they love it, it gives me a positive feeling that they will have a great future ahead of them. Thank you for making it possible for AFG to be here in the future for girls like my sisters."

AFG would like to thank all of our donors, volunteers, and supporters, past and present, who have helped the girls and women we serve get access to the resources they need to make positive choices and live powerful lives.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Amanda (Amy) L. Good
