Featured Producers: Our Summer Interns!

Meet Keri Whitman and Briana Spangler, our amazing interns! They have been busting their butts all summer long to create fantastic programming as well as filling in wherever they are needed at both our Tip Top and AVA studios! Next time you see them around be sure to say hello!

Get to know Briana!

My relationship with CATV all started with my switch into the Design Illustration and Media Arts Vocational program at Hartford high school. When my teacher there took her maternity leave she needed a replacement teacher fort the time of her absence. Bob Franzoni (executive director of CATV) was helping with out video unit along with one of his co-workers. When the video unit was over Mr. Franzoni when back to work at CATV and his co-worker Ella stayed to teach our class. Not long after my teacher returned I learned that Bob was looking for a student to intern there during school hours and I thoughtlessly volunteered. After a few weeks of going to CATV once or twice a week I started to love it and Bob asked me to continue my internship after school ended into the summer. I think this is one of the best opportunities I could get. I am learning and having a good time AND I am getting paid for it!

I have never really been involved in any community I have lived in until I started working here and I think it is great! I never knew about the amount of things that happens around here. I always thought it was a relatively boring place to live but now I am seeing and experiencing all these fun things the community puts on for the community. I have taped all sorts of things like sports games, concerts, plays, lectures, farmers markets, and studio shoots.

My first studio shoot for some reason is still the most memorable. I just felt so great using all the equipment and knowing that everything that was set up was set up by me. It was an Angry Moderate show and i found it funny and entertaining and even little exciting. Seeing the final project after editing and producing was the BEST.

My favorite part about working here and producing is probably being around the people and events and seeing people doing what they really love to do; things they love so much they want to share them with anyone who will pay attention. There is a lot of interesting stuff going on at any point and time. It is great to see people making themselves happy. I love it.

I love this CATV station and the work involved so much that I would love to go out into the world and try working at other TV stations to see what everywhere else is like. At first I knew I wanted to go to school for fashion and that was it..but now..everything has changed.

Get to know Keri!

I have lived in Vermont since I was two years old and had never been to CATV before last year. Sophomore year at Thetford Academy my friends convinced me to join the Design Illustration and Media Arts program at Hartford Area Career and Technology Center. Our class went to CATV a few times to use the studio and thats where it all began! After the video unit I was chosen for the Ella Farnsworth Video Production Award. At the awards ceremony Bob Franzoni asked if I wanted to do an internship there, so I came to CATV one day a week during the rest of my senior year. As the end came closer Bob asked if i wanted to stay for the summer. I excepted the offer.

I have taped interviews, musical performances, weekly shows, and other small events. I personally like filming the interviews and weekly shows the most. They are both great ways to learn about the people around you. Everything we film and put on TV here has to do with the community in some way. I think that is one of the most important things. We all rely on each other for something even if it is just once in awhile.

One of the most memorable things I have filmed was Hands on Piano. I remember before I filmed it the first time there were random pianos appearing all over the Upper Valley. Then one day I was searching for something to film and saw this "Hands on Piano." When i got there I saw 5 people and 3 of them were in charge of the event. I thought to myself I hope more people come, and sure enough people just kept coming and coming. People would stay for a song or two and leave and when some people left more would come. It was just amazing how random people could come together like that. Every week there are more and more people. Some people don't sing, they just come sit and listen.

My favorite part about producing shows for CATV is the fact that there is such a variety. I also like the fact that I can pretty much film anything I want. Community is the main thing for me, and the interests of other people.

THANK YOU Keri and Briana for being an awesome addition to our team!
