Do you have a great idea for a show or something you'd be interested in covering around the Upper Valley? Give us a call or send us an email anytime to let us know! We wouldn't be who we are without the support of our awesome supporters, volunteers and producers!
|
Please take note!
Both CATV locations will be closing at noon on Tuesday, July 3rd and will also be closed Wednesday, July 4th.
Beginning July 9th, the Tip Top Studio editing space will be CLOSED to producer editing due to our annual summer Video Camps! Producers are welcome to edit at the AVA studio instead of the Tip Top and we urge you to reserve editing time as far in advance as possible.

Give us a little history of your background with CATV. How did you get started?
I moved to the Upper Valley from New York City last year. While walking through the Tip Top Building last fall, I saw the notices from CATV saying if you had an idea for a tv show, CATV would train you to use the equipment and help you produce your show. I walked in

and said I didn't have an idea for a show at that moment, but I'd love to learn to use the equipment and maybe help someone else with their project. To my pleasant surprise, I was very graciously (and patiently) taught to use Final Cut Pro and to use the cameras.
Then it was time to produce a show of my own. I did a feature on "Machine Madness" at the Montshire Museum in the fall, some holiday greetings in December, the first episode of a show about Lebanon history called "Lebanon Historical Society Presents....", and then I started my music show "Have You Heard?" Tell us about Have You Heard? What do you want people to get out of watching your show? "Have You Heard?" began because there are a number of performers I know from New York who are not really played on the radio here. I wanted to do a show that would familiarize people in the Upper Valley with those performers, give them some exposure here, and give me the opportunity to hear them again. The show has since expanded to include local performers as well.
The shows are part concert and part interview, so the audience can not only hear the music but also learn a bit about the performer. I've always found it fascinating to learn about a performer's musical background, musical influences, inspirations, how they write songs (if they do), and any other "behind the scenes" information they might want to share - and I hope my audience does too.
The first two shows were with people I know from New York, but the next two featured local performers. I found those really fun and very interesting to do too, because I gained a lot of insight into people I

had not known at all (or not known for very long) so in a way I became the producer and the audience for those shows.
From watching my show, I would like people to hear some good music they possibly might not have heard before, and also to get "behind the music" and gain some insight into the performers.
Who was your most memorable guest or what was your favorite show to host?
I've always been a tactful person, so - they've all been memorable and I don't have a favorite show.
Who would be your ideal guest to interview?
Pete Seeger. Bruce Springsteen. I'll keep hoping.
What is your favorite part of hosting Have You Heard?
I love everything about it! I enjoy hearing the music and doing the interviews. I've learned a lot from everyone who has been on the show so far, and I've had a great time throughout. Thanks for the opportunity, CATV! You can catch Barbara's show on CATV Channel 10 or see her on demand on her Vimeo Channel!

Studio Production News
June was a busy month at the Tip Top studio as we produced a total of 14 shows! Six were Judy McKeown's, "Spirit of the Valley." Judy has been working very hard to bring CATV viewers a wide array of interesting people and topics. Recently, Judy interviewed Dan Villiers, Ph.D. from Mountain Valley Treatment Center about a debilitating anxiety in adolescents which prevents them from from leaving their homes and going to school and his center's approach and success in conquering this illness. In another show, Judy featured the Hanover Conservancy with guests Adair Mulligan, Executive Director and Nancy Collier, Board President. Both women described the history of the organization with its extensive Hanover properties and trail systems that are maintained for the public. Other shows included Casey Albert and the upcoming 2nd Annual MascomaMan Triathlon, Larry Ruffing with his tips on health and fitness, and Lisa Johnson and her new health food made locally from yams called Yummy Yammy. Thank you, Judy, for all your efforts in making your shows true reflection of the Spirit of the Valley.
Finally, CATV's equipment will soon receive an upgrade as we anxiously await the arrival of three new studio cameras which will replace our 8-10 year old models. The new Canon XF105 HD camcorders will provide the highest quality images to both our studio shows and our green screen productions. Also, they are capable of being converted to field use to give our viewers great looking programs shot on location
