Countdown to the "Dog Days of Summer Auction"!
Second annual online auction, Sept. 3 - Sept. 7

ERU's online auction, running Sept. 3 through Sept. 7, starts just a little more than three weeks from today! And we need donations to support all our "R'Eskies." Please, remember to share this with all your Eskie- and animal-loving friends!
Why are we having this auction, and why do we need your help?
Did you know that every dog we rescue must be vetted? Many of them must be spayed or neutered, have vaccinations updated, and receive heartworm and flea medications. Many need blood and dental work. Often, our seniors are long-term fosters, and ERU is responsible for their care during that entire time. Some rescues will have special needs and incur additional vetting expense. The funds raised by this auction will enable ERU to save more Eskie lives.
How can you help?
There are two ways: 1) By donating items to be auctioned and/or 2) by bidding on auction items. Details:
Donating
What can you donate? Almost anything and everything! No item is too small. Possible donations include pet, paw-print, and/or Eskie items; contemporary or vintage jewelry; gently used/new clothing; home-décor items; handbags; car magnets; photo frames; Christmas ornaments; key chains; craft items; gift cards, etc. The possibilities are endless! Take a look at last year's auction items here.
When can you donate? Any time from now until Sunday, Aug. 31, at 11 p.m.
How do you donate? To submit a donation, please send an e-mail to
ERUauction@aol.com. Enter your item's description in the subject line; e.g.: "Screen-printed Eskie T-shirt." Send each item in a separate email. Attach a picture of each item, copy the below auction-album format, and fill in just the x's with your information. Leave the "item" line blank. Add any optional additional information about the item beneath the "donated by" line.

* Three shipping options:
1. Offer free shipping. This often generates higher bids since the winner doesn't have to pay for shipping
2. List a flat-rate dollar amount for shipping. Winner of item pays shipping, and you will be reimbursed for shipping via PayPal approximately a week after the auction ends
3. List a flat-rate dollar amount for shipping, and prior to being reimbursed for the shipping, offer to donate the collected shipping to ERU.
Helping Paws will again be running this auction for ERU. It will be one-hundred percent run by volunteers, with one-hundred percent of proceeds to ERU!
To join the auction action, go to Helping Paws, Inc.'s Facebook page. Under "Events," you will see the ERU auction listed: Sept. 3 - Sept. 7. Click "JOIN." And then share with your friends and family! An unofficial "preview" album will be made available around mid-August.
Helping Paws has more than 7,200 loyal auction fans, many who participate in every weekly auction. So keep in mind as you are collecting your donations that all-breed items, cat items, and even non-animal items are popular in addition to ESKIE items! If you don't know what to donate, you can get some ideas by viewing the 2013 auction album. And, remember, you can bid on items (see below) as well as donate them!
Bidding
To bid on items in the auction, you need to have a facebook account. If you don't already have one, go to facebook.com and follow the simple instructions to open an account. Once you do, go directly to the ERU Auction Event Page.
On Tuesday, Sept. 2, Helping Paws will post a link to the auction photo album on the ERU Auction Event Page. You'll be able to preview the auction items at that time and start planning your bids!
The auction opens on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. EDST. To place bids on the items you're interested, simply post your bid amount in the comments under each item's picture. Be sure to keep checking on your items during the auction, in case someone else outbids you. If that happens, you can place a higher bid by entering your new bid amount in the comments.
At the close of the auction, Helping Paws will post in the comments of each item the winner's name and the winning bid amount. The winning bidder will pay the bid amount plus the noted shipping, if any, to Helping Paws, Inc., via PayPal or by check.

Donate to the Yard Sale for Needy Tails!
 Yard Sales for Needy Tails has been helping animals for more than 10 years. An all-volunteer organization, YSNT raises money to help abused and unwanted animals by having yard sales. All items in the sale are donations, and o ne-hundred percent of the proceeds go to help animals. Popular items to donate include jewelry and costume jewelry, shoes, handbags, men's and women's clothing in good condition, housewares and home decor, bed and bath linens, small appliances, stereo equipment, CDs and DVDs, musical equipment, sporting goods, small furniture, and, naturally, pet-related items. Not enough time to submit items online for the ERU auction? Attending the "Celebration of Eskies" party next month?  It's Party Time! There are all kinds of Eskie activities going on these days! Not the least of which is the seventh annual "Celebration of Eskies" party, Saturday, Sept. 6, Randallstown, MD. Meet up with other R'Eskie owners; share your Eskie tales; check out the online auction action; and, of course, enjoy good food and good company. A not-to-be-missed event, last year's party had more than 70 Eskies (and their people) in attendance. As you can imagine, it was a fun day! To view some great party photos, take a look at the album here. The party also gives you another way to help animals in need. If you couldn't submit items for the auction, gather the things you wanted to donate, or that you've been meaning to put in a yard sale, or take to the thrift shop, and bring them to the party! They'll be donated to the Yard Sale for Needy Tails (details above). A truck loaded with donations, and driven by ERU's own Heidi Ortmeyer, will be leaving for New Jersey after the party. So, bring all that good stuff you've been saving "just-in-case" ('cuz "just in case" never comes)! Party RSVPs requested! Please let Heidi know by Sept. 1 that you're attending the party!
