December 2012 |
Happy New Year! Thank you for helping make 2012 a great year In 2012, your Snohomish County Parks system hosted 4 million visitors and celebrated completion of the Centennial Trail to the Skagit County line, construction of the Nakashima Historic Barn and north trailhead, ADA access at Willis Tucker Park, trails at Lord Hill Park, and boardwalk renovation at North Creek Park. We began construction at Tambark Creek and will be advertising for bids to construct Miner's Corner Park next year. Thank you volunteers and corporate sponsors for your dedication to making Snohomish County's parks enjoyable and beautiful for everyone to enjoy. Special volunteer efforts include cleanup days at Lake Stickney Park, the Centennial Trail and Fishermen's Park. Meadowdale Elementary School students raised salmon fry and released them into the stream at Meadowdale Beach County Park.
Sundquist Homes again provided Movies in the Park. Thrasher's Corner Sports Grill sponsored its annual benefit golf tournament to fund youth activities, raising nearly $2,000. Willis Tucker Park also hosted the Farmer's Market and the National Night Out event.
We wish you joy and happiness throughout the new year and look forward to seeing you in 2013. |

Park it Here!
JANUARY'S FEATURE
OF THE MONTH
Flowing Lake County Park Cabins
There's nothing like that first deep breath of fresh air in the woods -- mingled with a hint of campfire smoke that's wafting lazily into the frosty morning sky. A childhood memory or one in the making, winter camping is a great experience -- especially if you park it in a Flowing Lake cabin.
Warm and cozy, our cabins include heat, electricity and light. Furnishings include bunk beds (or futons) for five, a table and chairs, and the security of a locked door and screened windows. Don't forget to bring your bedding and food. And while you're at it, bring Fido, who's always welcome in our pet friendly cabin.
Warm up to our current discounted winter rates (starting at just $40/night). Click here to reserve a cabin. Use Promo Code FIFTY for $10/night off for cabins rented and used in January.
This winter, wake up fresh and relaxed indoors; then breathe in the great outdoors. |

County seeks photos, stories
of Centennial Trail Rail
Project focuses on Snohomish/Bryant
spur between 1930-1976
Snohomish County is designing an interpretive education project along the Centennial Trail and collecting historical information on how the former rail line was used.
Sponsored by the county's Economic Development Department with grant funding from the Washington State Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation, the project will consist of interpretive signs, an educational video and a website dedicated to telling the story of the Centennial Trail area along its 28 miles of trailheads from the city of Snohomish in the south to the new Nakashima Farm site in the north.
The county is asking residents to share photos, stories, memories and other information to help create a compelling cultural resource for the community and generations to come.
Email historic information for the interpretive program to info@centennialtrail.com or by regular mail to:
Site Story, Attn. Centennial Trail, 2513 Eleventh Avenue West Seattle, WA 98119.

Canine Parvovirus Outbreak
Snohomish County Parks recommends all pet owners consult with their vet to make sure their animal is healthy enough for dog off-leash areas and current with all vaccinations. Please remember to clean up after your pet and to dispose of waste properly. |
