Lord Hill Regional County Park hosts Cascade Orienteering Club's annual event
More than 100 spectators and 138 participants took part in the Cascade Orienteering Club's annual competitive event at Lord Hill Park April 24. The national event included competing teams from youth groups, high schools, colleges and military units from all over the United States. Maps and compasses are used to find marked sites throughout the park.
Often called "the thinking sport," orienteering is the sport of navigation. Participants are given a map and use their powers of observation to navigate through a course of pre-set checkpoints. The goal is to find the checkpoints in order, but it's up to the participant to determine the best way to get there. |
Volunteers honored during "thank-you" dinner The Parks Department recently said "thanks" to more than 100 people who have volunteered their time and talents during the past year, making Snohomish County's parks the great places they are. Volunteers and staff gathered at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds for a great event. Want more information on how you can volunteer, call Parks at 425-388-6600. |
