Thought CloudMy kids' summer is so short.  Start to finish, it's a little over four weeks.  Before the summer break starts, I make a list on the white board in our kitchen of events, activities, family trips, and other ideas of what we can do together during our four precious weeks.  I adjust my work schedule so that I'm seeing fewer clients and block off Wednesdays and Thursdays so that I only see clients in the evenings and can spend those days enjoying time with my boys.

We had a pretty good summer this year.  We visited the Exploratorium and the Rosicrucian Museum, camped with friends twice and then once in the backyard, swam in Uncle Chris' pool, and saw a handful of movies, among other activities.  But now it's back to school time, I feel what I can only describe as guilt. The list of what we did over the summer is kind of average, nothing spectacular.  And I worked very little during the month of July.  My creative, business-building work has piled up because I only looked at in small chunks of time, and each leftover crumb felt like it was stolen it from my kids.

When I'm with my children, I'm thinking about all of my work that isn't getting done.  When I'm working, I feel guilty, like I haven't given my children a good enough summer.

Author Brigid Schulte, who wrote the book Overwhelmed: Work, Love, and Play When No One Has The Time, calls this mental pollution "contaminated time."

Wholehearted Motherhood

Do you have a role model for motherhood? Are you struggling because you don't know what a good mom is supposed to look like, let alone feel like on the inside? Deciding how you want to feel as a mother is the first step to becoming the mom you were born to be.  In this Saturday Sanctuary, we'll talk about our role models, learn from each others' experiences, and hone in on our Wholehearted Feelings as the starting point for defining motherhood.

Coming Home to Acceptance

Acceptance is "the act of embracing what life presents to you with a good attitude," writes Cherie Carter-Scott, in her book If Life is a Game, These are the Rules. "The way you view your body is directly related to how close you are to learning the lesson of acceptance."  Wisdom and beauty are found on a path through the body by embracing our weight, lumps and bumps, and other perceived flaws.  In this Saturday Sanctuary, we'll begin to look at what is getting in the way of acknowledging our bodies as our lifelong guides in our journey toward peace and joy.

Each retreat includes a short guided meditation that you can integrate into your day-to-day life, conversation with other moms in a safe and nurturing environment, new ideas and tools, and a hands-on craft project to build a bridge between the retreat and your daily routine.  Light refreshments are provided.

The groups are just for moms so that you can take the time for yourself without distractions from your family. Space is limited to only eight moms; registration is required.

Come to Saturday Sanctuary for Moms to rest,
relax, and renew.  You'll head home happier.

Six month to seven months old is a perfect time to join a six-day Playgroup Series. And when your baby is 13 to 14 months old, take a refresher course to improve your skills and increase your baby's signing vocabulary.

Touch Blue Sky offers two different playgroup series - Playgroup Boom and Playgroup Zoom.  No need to take them in order; you can start with either one.  Both Playgroups include the essential basic starter signs but vary in the more advanced vocabulary.  Visit our website for more details.
