Parenting Like a Prius
|
It's easy to be busy. Most of us have become so consumed with what needs to be done that we end up drained and depleted, out of gas at the end of the day. When you're speeding down the freeway, rushing to get from Point A to Point Z, you're draining your resources. What would it be like to enjoy the ride? What if everything you did came from a deep place of replenishment? Of knowing that when you ease up on the gas, you are continually refilled. Of having an understanding that whenever you make a decision, you are choosing to create your life in the smallest of ways, in little acts of love that rejuvenate, restore, and revive you.

My very own life coach, Christy Miller, taught me a great tool to help me to get better mileage on myself throughout the day. Her advice that I'd like to share with you is to imagine that each morning you get ten golden coins to put in your pocket. Throughout the day, you'll need to pay for your activities with your imaginary coins. A heavy-duty workout at the gym might cost two coins. An all-nighter with your infant might cost six or more. How do you spend your golden coins? What uses up your physical, emotional, and spiritual energy? At the end of the day, how many coins do you have left in your pocket? Do you have a few remaining or are you completely depleted? Worse, are you in debt? What are ways that you can take care of yourself - and your family - and have coins leftover at the end of the day? If your day starts with a tantrum-ing three year old, you might want to choose a 'lite' version of your day that includes a nap alongside your infant and putting off the big shopping trip to Costco until tomorrow. Or healthy take-out instead of a home cooked meal. Or maybe your mom is in town and she's waking up with your baby during the night (we can all dream) and you can super-size your to do list for the day. Being self-aware is the first step in self-care. Try this self coaching tool next time you're planning your day or writing down your to do list and feel free to share your experience on our Facebook page. |
Massage at Touch Blue Sky
| Touch Blue Sky Massage Therapy is more than just me, Kathleen Harper. I work with three amazing massage therapists. Did you know that Julie Ann Randall is also a birth doula? And that Beth O'Boyle provides massage therapy at California Pacific Medical Center's Women's Health Resource Center in addition to her work at Touch Blue Sky? And Reta Coolin offers Angelic Healing energy work in addition to CranioSacral Therapy, deep tissue, and Swedish massage? I have received massage therapy sessions from each of my colleagues. You're in good hands with all three; they're experienced, well-trained, and nurturing.
We work out of the massage studio on 25th Avenue (and provide on-site sessions if desired). Send me an email or call 650-222-6538 to schedule a session with Julie Ann, Beth, or Reta. We look forward to providing you with a respite from your worries, a safe place to unwind and relax, and a way to ease the stress and tension in your body.
