Wholehearted Living
| | "Wholehearted living is about engaging in our lives from a place a worthiness. It means cultivating the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough. It's going to bed at night thinking, Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn't change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging."
Brene Brown in Daring Greatly: How the Courage to be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent and Lead.

MASSAGE THERAPY
|
As my life coaching practice grows, my massage therapy practice is changing. I am continuing to focus my practice on supporting moms, especially pregnant mothers, throughout the profound transitions that a woman experiences as a mother. And I'm blessed with a community of regular clients whom I adore. But there's always more that I want to fit into my day than the hours allow. To help make more hours in the day, I am now a part of a network of three amazing colleagues who are experienced, well-trained, and nurturing massage therapists. We all work out of the office on 25th Avenue (and provide on-site sessions if desired). Send me an email or call 650-222-6538 to schedule a session with me, Reta Coolin, Julie Ann Randall, or Beth O'Boyle. We look forward to providing you with a respite from your worries, a safe place to unwind and relax, and a way to ease the stress and tension in your body.

Free Life Coaching for Moms

I am excited to announce that I have added life coaching to my mom-centered practice. I am currently in training with the amazing Martha Beck, author and columnist for O: The Oprah Magazine. Throughout my massage therapy career, I have been passionate about working with and supporting moms throughout all stages of motherhood and I am excited about sharing this passion with more moms through my coaching practice. Being a mom can stretch your heart and fill it with more joy, but it can also create growing pains, which feel like exhaustion, stress, confusion, and loneliness. It's a time when it's easy to lose your balance, lose sight of your priorities, and lose time for what feeds your soul, whether your children are infants, adults, or somewhere in between.
While I'm in this stage of my training, I am offering my 12-week program for free to five moms from the Touch Blue Sky community.* Are you interested? Curious as to how life coaching can help you? Wondering if you have enough time? Check out my life coaching page on our brand new website. I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation for you to learn more about life coaching and for us to figure out if we're a good fit. I work with clients over the phone, via Skype, and in person at my San Mateo office. Send me an email or call 650-222-6538 to schedule a time for us to chat and we'll go from there. Call me. I'm excited about my new adventure and very excited about talking with you about yours. Kathleen HarperLife Coach/Massage Therapist * Once the five free spots are filled, moms can still receive 50 percent off the regular price until the end of August by mentioning this article.

The topic of bullying has been coming up more often lately at my house, especially with my older son who will be starting middle school this coming year. (Don't ask me how he grew so fast; I can't believe it either.) My son is a fan of the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books, which are accurate and uncomfortable reflections of middle school in all of its awkwardness. So, based on his reading and what he hears from friends, my son has some appropriate apprehension. This week while walking to school, we talked about how bullies work in secret, relying on the assumption that the bystanders and the bullied aren't going to tell. I told both of my boys that if they're bullied or witness bullying it's important to make the situation public by letting a grown up know.
What a lot to ask. Especially of a child.
I'm a grown up and I can think of a heavy handful of instances in the past year when I haven't stood up for my own truth.

Baby Sign Language Grows and Grows
|
Touch Blue Sky now provides baby sign language workshops at more than 30 locations throughout the Bay Area, from San Francisco to Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay to Walnut Creek. We're excited to add Bloom Retreat/Walnut Creek, Wingspan Movement and Wellness/Oakland, and Santa Cruz Village Birth & Family Enrichment Center/Santa Cruz to our community.
We're also excited about our network of instructors who are bringing baby sign language to families, teaching parents and caregivers how to communicate with their children long before the babies can speak verbally. Using sign language can help reduce a child's frustration and give the parent a window into the child's world, answering questions big and small: What is my baby interested in? What fascinates him? What does she want to eat for breakfast?
