Love to try the latest thing? Me too. Next on my list is the super sleek 38º North, at the Sonoma Mission Inn. The light-bite, lounge offers 50 wines by the glass including that cult-wine I'm waiting to try, Screaming Eagle. Fridays and Saturdays feature famed S.F. DJ, Rubberband Girl, and a menu created by Chef de Cuisine, Andrew Cain, who also oversees the Michelin-star rated, Santé, the on-site, fine dining option, which also just reopened in April. The name? The inspiration is the latitude of the 38th parallel, along which the world's most iconic wine regions sit including Alicante in Spain, Italy's Calabria, New Zealand's Hunter's and Hawke's Bay and of course Sonoma Valley. fairmont.com/sonoma

Love cheese? Good News. Long Meadow Ranch's summer series, "Kitchen Workshop at Long Meadow Ranch," features a Say Cheese workshop this Sunday, July 21. For the price of $195, one will gain educational insight into the local cheeses and producers in the Bay Area. Different types of milks and their characteristics, aging, paired accompaniments and wine pairing potential will be discussed, and attendees will make dishes, simply made cheeses (e.g. ricotta) and learn ways to integrate cheese into weekly meals and special occasions. Classes begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Logan-Ives House at Long Meadow Ranch Winery & Farmstead in St. Helena.
