A Time of Consecration
Greetings once again in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I trust that you and your family are doing well and that God's unmerited favor reigns abundantly in your lives. The month of October is our month of Consecration. This has been a celebrated tradition in our church for many years. It was initiated by our beloved founder, Bishop C.C. Owens and continued with greater intensity after his transition. The month of consecration has evolved from a one night shut in, to a 31 day period of fasting and prayer. We fast daily and come to the church for a one hour period of prayer and devotion every week night of the month. In spite of the obstacles of distant travels, the enormous price of gasoline, and the many obligations we all have, the month of consecration is the month we experience our best attendance! Needless to say, we are excited about it. Consecration is simply the act of setting apart, or dedicating something or someone for God's use. Paul wrote to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:21 "If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work." In the verse before this one (i.e. vs. 20), Paul gives an illustration of different types... CLICK TO READ MORE. CLICK TO HEAR SERMONS

First Things First
State Women's Workshop The First Jurisdiction Illinois Women's Department held their 24th Annual Women's Workshop Saturday, September 22nd at the beautiful and spacious Reed's Temple Church of God in Christ. The theme this year was "Seeking God through, Prayer, Obedience and His Word. Our Jurisdictional Supervisor, Mother Charlotte Eades, who is the host of this workshop, stated that the theme this year emphasizes our need to draw closer to God's plan and that it is a very appropriate theme for these end times. The committee selected some great topics for the workshop and the instructors pulled together some very relevant and inspiring information to give to those that attended. This year we could only select one class to attend, but we were all able to come together for the class summary, which gave us an opportunity to get to hear what the other classes had to offer. Mother Elvie Owens, Sis. Christine Jones, Sis. Marilyn Thomas and Sis. Danielle Gipson along with myself attended from Emanuel. Sis. Marilyn Thomas shared some highlights ....CLICK TO READ MORE. I Just Wanna Thank God
Submitted by Bro. Anthony Redditt
I just want to thank God first, for letting me know that I was not above trials and tribulations without which, He wouldn't have been able to show me He loves me. On Wednesday, August 29th I found myself feeling weak in the knees, very fatigued and I actually felt faint. I told the First Lady I wouldn't be able to attend bible class that night. She said maybe I was coming down with a cold or bad headache and should go home and get some rest to which I obliged. Thursday morning I awoke and found I was yet not feeling well which was when my Mother suggested I go to Urgent Care and get checked out. I arrived at Urgent Care's triage at about 4pm on Thursday and upon getting checked out the nurse immediately told me I was diabetic because my sugar was over 400. I immediately refused to accept that diagnosis. The nursed then told me I had to be rushed to the hospital and would have to stay overnight and have many tests run. I arrived at Ingalls Hospital at 9pm that same day where they in fact did run a battery of tests, did EKG's, drew blood and put me on a saline drip/IV. I found that not only my sugar was high but also my blood pressure. The doctor told me that it looked as though I would need insulin for the rest of my life; again I objected within myself saying this can't be. They continued testing me, checking my kidneys and liver which turned out to be ok (Thank God). I was told again that I would need insulin for life ....CLICK TO READ MORE.

Annual Mother's Board Day
On Sunday evening, September 23rd the Emanuel Mother's Board held their Annual Mother's Board service. Our guest speaker was Mother Martha Hogue, from Greater Holy Temple COGIC. She talked about Unity - Ephesians 4:1 - Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. She talked about how we as people of God should walk in unity. She admonished us to pursue harmony and oneness with each other. She left us with many examples of those in the bible that walked together in unity (Ruth & Naomi, David & Jonathan, etc.). Mother Turner who is the President of the Mother's Board was unable to attend because of sickness. She was truly missed, but her instructions were carried out and the program was a tremendous success! Submitted by Sis. Keeya Thomas |
