Wow, September is jam-packed with activities at market! Next week, we host our
second kids' day and celebrate our first year of the Sprouting Stories Program. On
September 21st,
we run our annual
Customer Dot Survey,
where we get to learn about you and you get to tell us what you think about the market. And then on
September 28th, we are hosting our first ever
Salsa Day
with a DJ, avsalsa dancing demonstration and a summer salsa contest where you taste the samples and pick the winner!
And then of course, there is this week. On Saturday, our resident face painter Crista will be in the market. Members of the Hollywood Farmers Market Board will be set up to answer all of your questions about joining our volunteer board. Captured By Porches, Dancing Light Ranch and Hot Mama Salsa are all in the market. And Ole World Oils and Happy Campers Gluten Free are back. Nourishment is out and Nossa Familia are absent this week. And don't forget that Dragonfly Forge (knife sharpening) is in the market on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month and will not be in the market this week.
See you at the market!

Candice Grapes
Sun Gold Farm
It's such a treat to see fresh, local grapes in the farmers market. Unfortunately, it's a quick season, so hurry on over and try some Candice grapes, which will likely only be around another week. Candice is a variety of table grape (as opposed to a wine grape), that was introduced in New York in 1954 and produces beautiful tight red clusters full of sweet, full-flavored seedless grapes - perfect for snacking any time of day. The grapes are grown on a quarter of an acre at Sun Gold Farm near Forest Grove, without the use of sprays or pesticides.
Kielbasa
Olympic Provisions
Hands-down the most popular sausage over at the Olympic Provisions stand is the Kielbasa. This traditional polish sausage, made in-house at their NW Portland location, is full of smoky, garlicky flavor. And if the time is right, you may be able to get samples that are cooked on-site. But make sure you head over early in the day, as they often sell out. Try it in the morning with eggs and hash, or use it as a wonderful addition to a fall soup, like Split Pea.
Roma Tomatoes
Deep Roots Farm
There's no better time than now to start canning and preserving nature's bounty, including all of those beautiful tomatoes! For the rest of September, Deep Roots will have an incredible deal on their Roma tomatoes, which are $20 for 20 lbs boxes. Roma tomatoes are the best variety for canning and making sauce, as they are less juicy than other varieties. And, unlike most Roma tomatoes you get in the grocery stores that are picked green, Deep Roots lets them ripen on the vine so they have that excellent tomato flavor.
Willapa White
Willapa Hills Farmstead Cheese
Willapa White is a fresh sheep's cheese, similar to chevre but much more mild. Made fresh every week, the cheese is made from the milk of Willapa Hill's more than 100 sheep, which live on their farm near Chehalis, WA. They stop milking mid to late September, so now is the time to go take a taste! The cheese is perfect to crumble over a roasted beet salad, or try it like cream cheese with a baguette and some fresh jam.
Krogstad Aquavit
House Spirits Distillery
House Spirits is a new vendor this year at the Hollywood Farmers Market, selling award-winning locally-distilled spirits at the market the first Saturday of each month. Among their offerings is Krogstad Aquavit (pronounced aqua - VEET), based on the traditional Scandinavian recipe and flavored with caraway and star anise. Goes especially well with smoked fish.
