Suicide Seminar
The Northern Illinois District Life Task Force Presents a Seminar on Suicide: Introduction to Suicide Prevention, Intervention, Postvention, and the Lutheran Approach to Suicide Ministry (a Biblical perspective). The seminar will be offered twice:
  • Saturday, April 16, 9 a.m. to noon at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 100 South School Street, Mount Prospect.
  • Saturday, April 23, 9 a.m. to noon at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1225 East Second Street, Belvidere.

CLEF Scholarship Gala

CLEF (Chicagoland Lutheran Educational Foundation) holds its annual Scholarship Gala on Saturday, April 16, 6 p.m., at Brookfield Zoo Discovery Center in Brookfield, Illinois. CLEF supports Lutheran schools in the city of Chicago. The mission of the CLEF Good News Fund is to partner with Chicago's Lutheran schools to ensure that every child in Chicago has the opportunity to experience Christ's love through a quality Christian education. Position Available: Bus Driver
Luther North College Prep, 5700 W. Berteau Ave., Chicago, is looking for an additional bus driver. Interested individuals need to have a CDL bus license with a school endorsement. Donations Needed for Chaplain's Deployment

Army Reserve Chaplain Captain Richard O. Schultz, pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freeport, has been activated for deployment from Fall 2016 to Summer 2017 in the Middle East. Preparation for deployment begins soon, and the NID is inviting your help in assembling his chaplaincy supplies. Your prayers are also encouraged for Pastor Schulz, his family and the congregation.
April 15 Deadline for NID Endowment Grant Applications
The deadline is April 15, 2016, for requests for grants. These are small grants. Eligible projects are those consistent with the goals of New Starts...New Believers of the district, its congregations and any of the corporations, associations and recognized service organizations that are listed in the current Lutheran Annual. Wheat Ridge Ministries Grants
See the Wheat Ridge Ministries' website (wheatridge.org) for information on eligibility and the grant proposal review process on these ministry grants:
  • Joshua Grants are one-year matching grants of $1,000 to $5,000 to Lutheran congregations, organizations, and agencies committed to launching new ministries of health and hope in their community. This grant application has a rolling deadline with grants awarded quarterly.
  • Burst Project Grants are one-time grants of up to $5,000 for a human care ministry project designed and led by young adult leaders in the Lutheran community. This grant application has a rolling deadline with grants awarded quarterly.
  • The GrantsPlus Program funds new health and human care ministries sponsored by congregations, agencies and emerging nonprofit organizations. Grant awards range from $5,000 to $50,000 over two to three years. Grant recipients will participate in capacity building opportunities to strengthen their program and organization.
