News from the 44th Ward
 Dear Neighbors,

Happy Pride Month!  Pride Fest will take place this Saturday and Sunday and  the Chicago Pride Parade will be held the following Sunday, on  June 30th. These events have been split into separate weekends for this year.  We ask that everyone do their part to assist in making these events safe and enjoyable.  Please celebrate responsibly and in moderation.  Respect our neighborhood and open container laws. If you see any problems please call 911.

The 2013 Chicago Sculpture Exhibit (CSE) installations are up! There are nine new public art pieces in the 44th Ward, and 24 total spanning across five wards on the north side.    Almost every piece was made by a local Chicago artist.  Take a walk through our ward to see all the new sculptures.

I voted against the revised parking meter ordinance at City Council on June 5th. We are still figuring out the mechanics to have Sunday meter enforcement in the 44th Ward. Sundays are one of the busiest days for businesses in our neighborhoods. Local stores and restaurants rely on parking turnover to serve their customers and free parking on Sundays has the potential to cause major parking issues on our commercial streets. I was the first Alderman to institute Sunday meter enforcement in the neighborhood back in 2004 and am working to ensure that it remains in Lakeview.

Our 44th Ward City Sticker Sale Day will be on Tuesday, June 25th from Noon-6pm at 1057 W. Belmont.    You must bring your renewal form to purchase a Chicago City Vehicle Sticker. If you don't have your renewal form, you will need to provide one of the following approved forms of VIN documentation: State Vehicle Registration Card, Insurance Card (displaying VIN), or Vehicle Title.

Just a reminder, my office is moving to 3223 N. Sheffield,  effective July 1st.  We are combining offices with  Congressman Quigley and State Representative Sara Feigenholtz to provide enhanced constituent services. We are very excited about this new space.  Too accomodate this move, the 44th Ward Service Office will be closed Thursday, June 27 through Saturday, June 29th. Thank you for your patience during this transition!

Sincerely,

Alderman Tom Tunney

Chicago Pride Parade

Date: Sunday, June 30, 2013
Time: Noon
Begins At: Broadway & Montrose

LINE UP: North Broadway (both the east and the west curb lanes, from Montrose to Wilson); West Montrose (both the north and south curb lanes from Broadway to Clark) and North Sheridan Road (both the east and the west curb lanes, from Montrose to Windsor).

PARADE ROUTE CLOSURES: There will be rolling closure times. The parade starts at 12:00 Noon at the Broadway/Montrose corner proceeding south on Broadway; then south on Halsted; then east on Belmont; then south on Broadway; then east on Diversey to Cannon Drive. Cross streets will close as the parade travels south down the route.

PARADE INFORMATION:  The parade will feature 200 registered entries including floats, decorated vehicles, performance groups, a marching band and walking contingents. The entries represent community organizations, businesses, governmental officials and individual community members. Crowd estimates each year are in the hundreds of thousands. The parade route will be lined with barricades on both sides of the street from beginning to the end of the parade route. Spectators will be required to remain behind the barricades. (Only parade registrants traveling down the middle of the street, police officers, other city officials, parade marshals and credentialed media reps will be allowed in the street).

After stepping off at 12:00 PM, the parade will take approximately two and one-half hours to finish crossing the Broadway & Montrose corner. After this time, the floats will still be winding their way to the end of the parade route at Diversey & Sheridan.  Police officers along with the parade marshals will be present along the route.

This year there will NOT be a Buffer Zone on Halsted Street after the parade ends. Police will work to re-open the streets to vehicular traffic as soon as cleaning crews are finished and the streets will not remain open to foot traffic. The streets on the parade route will begin to be cleaned by Streets and Sanitation immediately after the last float has passed.  Streets and Sanitation will continue to clean the residential side streets through the end of Monday, June 25th.

Alcohol consumption WILL NOT be tolerated under any circumstances. Open containers containing alcohol are illegal on the streets and sidewalks in Chicago. You will be subject to receiving a costly ticket and/or arrest from the Chicago Police Department.
