March is Women's History Month
March is Women's History Month, an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. You'll find events and tributes taking place across the world that celebration the impacts of women. For a listing of some events happening in Kansas City, visit the UMKC's Women's Center site.
The Women's Business Center highlights the contributions of women every month. Here are some of the ways you can help us support women-led businesses in our community:
- Connect an aspiring female entrepreneur to the Women's Business Center for counseling and training.
- Volunteer to be a coach or advisor to a female entrepreneur.
- Help sponsor one of the many Women's Business Center programs.

Obtaining Certification as a Woman Owned Business Enterprise (WBE)
In celebration of Women's History Month, the U.S. Small Business Administration Kansas City district office has partnered with the Women's Business Center to host a workshop on how to obtain certification as a woman owned business enterprise. The workshop will provide details on the benefits of certification, the different certifying entities and process for certification . Represented certifying entities include the City of Kansas City Missouri, the State of Kansas, SBA/PTAC, and Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). The workshop is scheduled for March 19 but is already sold out.

InvestMidwest Venture Capital Forum
InvestMidwest is a venture capital conference that showcases 40-45 companies from throughout the Midwest in three industry tracks of life sciences, technology and food/ag/bioenergy. The 300+ attendees include investors from top venture capital firms.
InvestMidwest is scheduled for March 26-27 at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at the Arch. Companies wishing to attend should visit the InvestMidwest site.

Starr Women's Hall of Fame launched in Kansas City
The Starr Women's Hall of Fame was recently launched at a luncheon featuring keynote speaker Chelsea Clinton on February 24 to an audience of over 1,10 0 Kansas Citians. The Hall will recognize women from the metropolitan area and preserve the legacy of their contributions. Nominations are currently being accepted for the Starr Hall of Fame Class of 2014.
