FastTrac® New Venture is Back!
New classes begin February 10, 2011

Let these words from past FastTrac New Venture participants "speak for themselves":

"I enjoyed this program so much! I came into this class with a business idea but no knowledge of what to do or how to start. I learned the right things to research and how to calculate if the business will generate enough income and still enough time to sleep!"

"I really enjoyed this class and I learned a great deal about business.  I feel like I am much more equipped to take my idea and see if I can build it into a sound business!"

"I learned so much - and it was wonderful to be in the company of such bright, optimistic and passionate women."

Classes are held on Thursday evenings from 6 - 9 pm for 10 consecutive weeks. The last day of class is April 14, 2011.

Cost: $450

Tax Relief Act Extends Breaks for Individuals & Businesses
Summary courtesy of Anna Lopez Brosche, CPA, Managing Partner at Ennis Pellum & Associates.

The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010, signed into law Dec. 17, extends and expands a wide variety of valuable tax breaks and includes tax provisions affecting individuals and businesses. Here's a brief summary of the most important provisions.

Individual Tax Provisions
General:

  • New two-percentage-point payroll tax cut for 2011
  • Extension of the lower ordinary income tax rates for all tax brackets through 2012
  • Extension of marriage penalty relief through 2012
  • Extension of the elimination of itemized deduction and personal exemption phase-outs through 2012
  • Extension of the deduction for state and local sales taxes in lieu of state and local income taxes through 2011
  • Extension of the increased alternative minimum tax (AMT) exemptions through 2011
  • Extension of the ability to offset AMT liability with certain nonrefundable personal credits through 2011

As you can see, the Tax Relief Act includes numerous provisions, and we've only touched on some of them here. Many breaks are subject to a variety of rules and limitations, so it's important to discuss them with your tax advisor to determine exactly how they'll affect you. READ MORE HERE

Local Business Magazine Debuts New Name
Thinking Bigger Business Media Celebrates 20th Year!

MISSION, Kan. (February 4, 2011) - Thinking Bigger Business Media celebrates the beginning of its 20th anniversary year with a new name and format for its monthly magazine.

The name change and switch to a four-color glossy format is the next step in a branding evolution that began several years ago when the company changed its name from Kansas City Small Business Monthly to Thinking Bigger Business Media. Since then all the company's new products have carried the Thinking Bigger brand, except the monthly magazine. Beginning with the February 2011 issue, the name of the magazine officially changed from KC Small Business to Thinking Bigger Business to emphasize the mindset of its readers who turn to the publication looking for new strategies to grow their businesses.

Among the other changes readers will notice are enhanced editorial coverage, the launch of a digital flip-book edition at www.iThinkBigger.com, a major website redesign, and an overhaul of the weekly electronic newsletter. The digital edition contains content enhancements with audio and video feeds as well as links to Web exclusive content.
