The Crew Corner

If you owned an accordion, what's the first song you would learn?

Mike Petrik, Art Director

I do have an accordion, and I've learned how to play Under My Thumb by the Rolling Stones, which isn't an accordion song. This one by the Vaselienes, but popularized in this Nirvana Unplugged performance. This one actually has an accordion in it. I've also written my own tunes on it.

I wish I had the powers to play like Weird Al. These songs don't get enough credit for how amazing they are.

Adam Marzec, Motion Graphics Artist

$100 dollar bill by Jay-Z.

Kevin Wright, Producer

Rhapsody in Blue - Gershwin.

Ed Boe, Director of Photography

Ina-godda-davita by Iron Butterfly.

Joey Schiappa, Summer Intern

Get Lucky by Daft Punk.

John Courchane, Editor

I'd ask Mike for advice, he actually owns an accordion.

Matt Kudla, Director of Sales

Stairway to Heaven.

Allison Miller, Production Coordinator
The Song that Never Ends.

Michael Kromm, Director of Post Production

Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Greg Vass, Executive Producer

Sold by John Michael Montgomery.

SolidLine Produces 40 "Live" News Shows in Orlando

SolidLine kicked off June with another successful ASUG Annual Conference in Orlando, FL for the 8th year in a row. During the week-long event, the SLM crew produced several videos on-site including 40 live ASUG News broadcasts from SolidLine's show floor news studio. In addition, SLM debuted an awesome video for the ASUG keynote session, which was a production SolidLine worked on for 6 months and was produced specially for the custom 180-foot wide keynote theater screen.

"SolidLine continues to impress us with their creativity and high end level of production work," states ASUG  VP of Media & Communications, Thomas Wailgum. "From our conference promos to the keynote video to the work on the ASUG News studio, their attention to detail is exceptional, and they are a lot of fun to work with...ok, and hang out with too..."

In addition to the news broadcasts and keynote production, SolidLine also produced a video on-site to promote ASUG sponsor NTT DATA's golf outing they held to support the Tyler Robinson Foundation. This foundation was created to support sixteen year old Tyler who recently lost his battle to a very rare form of cancer. But before he passed, Tyler befriended pop band Imagine Dragons and didn't let his diagnosis slow him down. Imagine Dragons have been integral in helping get Tyler's story out to the public. Money raised by the foundation is donated to families who are battling cancer.

Check out the Tyler Robinson video we produced below, as well as an episode of ASUG News featuring the new studio set!

SLM Celebrates 10 Years in Telluride at the Patient Safety Summer Camp

For 10 years, the Telluride Patient Safety Roundtable has been working to transform healthcare, making it safer for patients and healthcare providers. The SolidLine crew traveled to the remote, and very beautiful, Telluride, CO this month with a crew of four to spend a week documenting the medical student summer camp. A group of 60 medical students, patient safety experts, and patient advocates gathered to talk about transparency, open and honest communication, and changing the culture in medicine to one where safety and high reliability are at the core of every medical decision.

"Over the past 10 years, we have had over 400 Telluride student and resident alumni scholars attend one of our Patient Safety Summer Camps, and many have done amazing work in leading change that is helping make care safer and more transparent," exclaims MedStar VP of Quality and Safety David Mayer, MD. "The SolidLine team has been an integral part of this mission, helping us to document and create powerful videos and documentaries about our patient safety work to share with the medical community and beyond."

The Telluride Patient Safety Roundtable will be expanding across the US with a "Telluride East" planned for July in Baltimore and a "Telluride West" next year in Napa Valley.

"Our work in patient safety is something I am very proud of," states SLM Executive Producer Greg Vass. "It is quite rewarding to be so involved in such a large healthcare transformation."

SolidLine Reels in Two People's Telly Awards

Last month, we asked the community to vote for us in the People's Telly Awards, and vote you did! Our 80's music video, "We Put It On Video" and fully-animated SPI production both brought home bronze awards, bringing the total amount of industry awards we've won this year up to seven. Normally when we submit our videos to a competition, a panel of industry professionals evaluate the work we've done using a precise judging system. But the cool thing about People's Telly is the fact that our friends, family, colleagues, and fans get to vote. So hats off to everyone who helped us win these awards -- we really appreciate your votes! Check out the winning vids below.
