SolidLine Media Celebrates A Dozen Years
Twelve years ago today, longtime pals Michael Kromm and Greg Vass capped off a year-long search for start-up financing by signing a bunch of papers and officially opening the doors of their new production company, SolidLine Media. But that was just the beginning. Operating out of an apartment in Palatine, IL for the first year, finding new business for a young company with young owners proved to be quite a challenge. "We struggled," states SLM Co-Founder and Executive Producer Greg Vass. "But we started at 7am every day and worked until 7pm every night, no matter what we had to work on. Many days we just spent talking strategy." And since then, that perseverance has never wavered. The next decade would prove to bring even bigger challenges as Kromm and Vass built their company, which now employs ten full time crew members. SolidLine is housed at 4,200 square foot production offices in Chicago's downtown loop. "We are blessed to have amazing clients and great work," Co-Founder and Director of Post Michael Kromm explains. "I was proud to be open for business back in 2001 and I still get that proud feeling each morning when I walk through the doors here at SolidLine."

SLM Presents at Cook County Creative Career Day
On Wednesday August 7th, the SolidLine crew gave back to the community by participating in the Chicago Community Trust's Creative Career Day. The Creative Career Day has been organized by the Arts Infusion Initiative which aims to expose, inspire and connect young people in the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center to arts activities that help strengthen future orientation, critical response, and careers in the performing arts, back-of-the-house roles, and creative industries has engaged them in practical tips related to career readiness.
SolidLine presented three 45-minute classes that featured a detailed overview of the production process, and a live Avid-editing demo.
"It's important to give back and help guide these kids, and be role models for their future," states Chicago Community Trust's Jesus Diaz. "And we appreciate SolidLine for taking a day to be a part of this program and help make that happen."
