SolidLine ShowReel Takes Home the Gold

SolidLine's new ShowReeel has been recognized with a Gold honor in the 2013 Aurora Awards, an international video production competition. Since 1996, the Aurora Awards has ranked tens of thousands of productions from around the world utilizing a panel of judges made up of experienced production industry professionals.

SolidLine caught up with Quinn Orr, one of The Aurora Awards founders, to see what sets the Aurora Awards apart. "What we are trying to do is create one place where the Commercial Director, the Documentary Director, the Corporate Producer, the University Relations guy, and the small independent shop can all get measured by the same yardstick. There are so many forms of media today, and excellence can be found and should be recognized in all forms. That's what we do."

SLM Wing Ding: Hot Wing Challenge

The fryers are hot and the sauces are spicy...which means only one thing. It's time for the SolidLine Media summer food cook-off challenge! On July 23rd SLM crew members will head to the office with something a little extra in their bags, a wing sauce ready to douse in freshly fried wings and be put up to the test for quality and taste from the SolidLine judging panel. The winner wing will receive not only a magnificent trophy, but also $100 and the respect of the SLM crew...at least for a day or so.

So, what does the crew have to say about their sauces?

Editor John Courchane is reveling in his usual food preparation confidence, "My Sauce is going to be a combination of that feeling you get when you say something rude to someone who doesn't deserve it, and not getting the toy you wanted as a kid for Christmas. That's the kind of flavor I'm going for."

DP Ed Boe provided a more 'calm' review of his wing sauce, "Just you suckas wait! Once I find the perfect mixture of spices and liquid, you will be crying in your pathetic mixture you call wing sauce!"

Whoa! Watch out for Ed and John everyone!

SolidLine Media Summer Interns Rachel Head and Joe Klontz will also be on hand documenting the event and will use the footage to compete in the Summer Intern Editing Challenge. So stay tuned to SLM Facebook page and blog for all the updates!

2 Qs with SLM Production Intern Rachel Head

Rachel Head Editing

How's the internship thus far?

So far at SLM I've been doing a lot of awesome stuff. I've been mostly editing various projects but I've also got to do some graphics work and I've been learning a lot.

What's your favorite part of the summer?

Going to the Renaissance Fair. I've gone every summer since I was 1 and it's really cool there. They have great food, great shows, and this year they had a huge dragon statue/puppet. It's always a fun time and I would recommend it to anyone in the Chicago area.

I like to take beef and ground it up and then pat it into little round discs. I call them 'pattys.' Then I toss them on the grill. I hope someday my idea will catch on.
