O'Hare Airport Welcomes SolidLine Crew

This month the SolidLine Media crew headed to O'Hare airport, but for the first time in history it wasn't for travel purposes. They were there to create a movement safety video for the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) and Transportation Research Board (TRB). It was a massive undertaking that included cooperation from the City of Chicago, O'Hare Operations, American and United Airlines, Chicago Fire Department, and the FAA. But it paid off big time -- the access that SolidLine had to the airfield was something never imagined.

A big thanks to all who helped make our shoot a success!

SLM Producer Kevin Wright describes the week-long film shot as "A once in a lifetime opportunity" as the crew filmed inside O'Hare's Air Traffic Control tower, on multiple runways and taxiways, inside the cockpit of a taxiing Boeing 777 aircraft, and on the ramp. The crew also experienced a first for SLM by using a Process Trailer, something usually reserved for major feature films and big budget commercials. Wright states, "It allowed the actors the freedom to concentrate on script and ensure the driving scenes were accurate and safe as aircraft were maneuvering all around the film set."

After five days on the tarmac, the crew came out with some amazing footage and a ton of cool memories.

The Tribe Has Spoken: SLM Takes Home People's Telly Awards

SolidLine was again highlighted in this year's People's Telly Awards, an online video competition where peers can vote for the best video according to separate categories. Three SLM productions were awarded with Bronze People's Telly awards after viewers voted them among the best productions in the annual competition. The winning productions include a consumer promotional video for Nutri-Vet, a product promo for Qvidian, and the 2013 SolidLine ShowReel. Check out each of these award-winning SolidLine videos below.

Memoirs of a SolidLine Media Intern

Last month in the SLM NewsReel, the crew gave a big shout out to Spring Production Intern Chris Tracz, thanking him for all of his hard work with what was a very busy start to the year for SolidLine. Shortly after the article ran, Chris surprised the crew with an amazing video he secretly created during his internship. This is definitely a must watch video. Thanks again Chris!

2 Qs with SLM Production Intern Joe Klontz

How's the internship thus far?

Incredibly great! I have been very busy meeting different crews for different shoots but I've already gained tons of experience and I can't wait to gain some more!

What's your favorite part about the internship?

I think the best part of the SLM internship is working on professionally organized and budgeted shoots. I am fascinated by the amount of pre-production work that goes on before the shoots which makes the actual shoot run more smoothly.

If you could be any vegetable, what would you be and why?

Mike Petrik, Art Director

John Courchane, Editor

Adam Marzec, Motion Graphics Artist

Ed Boe, Director of Photography / Editor

I'd have to say Pomme de Terre or possibly Tomate.

Ethan Barnowsky, Motion Graphics Artist

Are we going by post-2011 US standards? if so, slice of pizza would be my answer, for obvious reasons.

Kevin Wright, Producer

I'd be Sir Mix-A-Lot.

Marcus Leshock, Writer

Natalie Mueller, Writer

I want to be an eggplant...and I also want to say that Tomatoes are a fruit, so the boys all failed the test.

Allison Miller, Production Coordinator

I would be cauliflower floating in a bowl of delicious cheese soup.

Rachel Head, Summer Intern

I would be Brussels sprouts because hardly anyone likes them so there would be a decent chance of not being eaten.

Joe Klontz, Summer Intern

I'd be Broccoli, because it's like eating mini trees.

Michael Kromm, Director of Post Production

Komatsuna, because its a dark green leafy vegetable is grown mainly in Japan, Taiwan and Korea. Komatsuna is great for stir-fries and can be chopped into salad mixes. It's high in vitamins A and C and packed with calcium.

Greg Vass, Executive Producer

I would be a bean.
