Issue No. 401
January 2013
THE OFFICIAL SOLIDLINE MEDIA HOLIDAY CARD IS RELEASED

Typically, when you see "something strange in the neighborhood," you'd call the Ghostbusters, but a troupe of impostors is roaming the streets of Chicago. On 12/12/12, the SolidLine Media crew bundled up and ventured out to an "undisclosed location" to shoot their top-secret annual holiday card.

It turned out that the "undisclosed location" was actually right smack dab in the middle of Downtown Chicago on Wacker Drive -- so the photo and film shoot was hardly top-secret, but totally worth it.

The crew spent a couple of hours wearing Ghostbusters uniforms and posing alongside the famous Ecto-1 car as the Twittersphere lit up with "Chicago Ghostbuster sightings." Meanwhile, hopeful onlookers mistook the crew's shenanigans as a sign for a Ghostbusters sequel. Sorry guys, it was just the SolidLine Media gang and another epic SLM Holiday Card.

Not on our snail mail list? Didn't get a card? Send an email to info@solidlinemedia.com and we'll be sure to make sure something special arrives in your mailbox.

WATCH AND VOTE: SOLIDLINE INTERN EDITING CHALLENGE

All SolidLine Media interns walk away with plenty of hands-on experience in the video production field. But sometimes we just have to put that experience to the test and see what each intern is really made of. That's why we asked SLM Intern Broc Pachesa and Intern Ryan Nice to participate in our second SolidLine Intern Editing Challenge.

Both competitors had to create a video using the same footage from our Ghostbusters Holiday Card shoot. The cuts are in, but the jury is still out. And we need your help to decide who will reign as this semester's Intern Editing Champion!

The winner will be rewarded for their talents and efforts with an amazing trophy, and be added to the Intern Editing Challenge wall plaque in the SLM Atrium.

The New Puzzler

Happy New Year folks! We're looking forward to a great year ahead this 2013, or "twenty baker's dozen" as it's often referred to around here. This January just so happens to be Get Organized Month, and we all know how important organization is around the office and at home. In fact, studies show that having a good sense of organization has many positive psychological impacts on your mood. So quit putting off re-structuring that disaster of a closet and just do a little at a time! It can make a huge difference in your life and even improve stress levels.

The Question:

In what year was the first three ring binder invented?

A. 1755

B. 1886

C. 1911

D. 1940

Think you know the answer? Want to win some SolidLine swag? Email your response into puzzler@solidlinemedia.com. If you're the first correct respondent, you will be rewarded with an 11x17 SolidLine Ghostbusters poster AND a warm and fuzzy fleece! Good luck and thanks for playing The SolidLine Puzzler!

MEET THE CREW

Chris

2 Qs with SLM Winter Intern, Chris Tracz

You're two months into your internship Chris - describe your experience thus far.

My intern experience has been great. I love the fact that SolidLine offers me the opportunity to work in several areas of production. I've learned so much in just a short time that my brain hurts.

Would you describe yourself as being 'organized'?

Yes, I own a fanny pack.

ASK THE CREW

In your opinion, what is the best way to organize your belongings?

Mike Petrik, Art Director

Toss most of your stuff in the garbage til you're left with just what's in your pockets. Done!

Ed Boe, Director of Photography / Editor

Just remember where everything is... simple!

Kevin Wright, Producer

I organize by size. All large objects go in front of smaller objects so I have to move the larger objects to find the smaller ones so I remember where the larger objects are at all times but not the smaller ones.

Marcus Leshock, Writer

I organize everything with hashtags.

Natalie Mueller, Writer

By level of use... and flammability.

John Courchane, Editor

I let Kromm organize the edit suites.

Adam Marzec, Motion Graphics Artist

Put whatever it is you need in the same spot every time. Duhhhhh!

Allison Miller, Production Coordinator

Business in the front, party in the back.

Chris Tracz, Winter Production Intern

Alphabetically.

Michael Kromm, Director of Post Production

Labels.

Greg Vass, Executive Producer

I just buy cheap stuff that nobody else wants so I don't have a problem finding it, and don't care if I lose it.
